I have the 2 part miniseries ‘Neverland’ from 2011.
Since it’s only a 2 part, I merged it into 1 movie, and put it in my ‘Movies’ folder. However, Plex will not match this.
When I do a ‘Fix Match’, I can see it in the list, I click it, but Plex refuses to match it.
I’m reasonably sure this is because it’s really a 2 part mini series, rather than a single movie.
I’ve had this same issue with other shows that are TV movies. They are single episode ‘made for TV’, but since I put them in my ‘movies’ folder, Plex won’t match them. I suspect this is because they match on TheTVDB rather than TheMovieDB
I realize I can probably put these in TV series and it will work, but I really don’t want 1 episode (or even 2 episode) shows in my TV Series folder. I’ve gone through the work of merging them together, I’d like to keep them as a movie, rather than a series.
Is there a way to make Plex match on these, so that I can get all of the correct Meta data? I find it really odd that Plex sees the correct match for Neverland 2011, but will not pull the Meta data for it.
Here is my filename - F:\Movies\N\Neverland (2011).m4v
I did a ‘fix match’, I saw the Neverland 2011, as the #1 entry, I clicked on it. I waited a full minute, and no meta data showed up. I then did a ‘refresh meta data’, just to be sure. Attached are my logs.
I much appreciate your feedback. I love plex, and it works great, only a few minor issues like this.
I was just in the process of setting up a new server and noticed that the TV version of “The Andromeda Strain” would not match in spite of the fact that an older server on the same network had matched it perfectly.
The same as you I tried “Fix Match” and the correct TV movie with the correct date showed up just fine but when chosen it appeared that no metadata was downloaded.
I also noticed the same problem with a TV version of “Day of the Triffids” and I think there was at least one other.
I tried both Plex Movie and TMDB and could not get any metadata on any of them.
I “think” there may be a problem with the made for TV part of the lookup/download engine.
In this case we may want to simply put it to bed and try again on the 'morrow.
@trumpy81
OK. The issue is now fixed. It never occurred to me that the Plex Dance or optimizing the database could fix the problem due to the fact that this was a brand new install on a fresh install of Windows 10.
But I did the whole dance on one of the files and it fixed it and then on the remaining files I simply did a “fix match” and it fixed them so I suspect that something was somehow jammed up in the system and, just as a guess, the “optimize database” freed the jammed part.
I do have a couple of questions however and I hope you take the time to answer:
Since this was a brand new install what could have caused the problem?
Why would whatever was wrong only effect some made for TV movies? All the movies impacted were made for TV but not all made for TV movies failed to get metadata.
A few points:
The library is big, nearly 3000 movies.
I installed TV shows first and allowed the scan to complete before setting up the movie libraries.
The only other task the computer running this Plex install has is DrivePool.
You will probably find that the issue was with the iMDB/TMDB, more specifically not being able to reach them across the net. It seems to be happening with more frequency lately, but it normally resolves itself within 24 hours or so. Always check your logs when you have issues like this. They will usually point to the cause of the problem.
That’s a question for the iMDB/TMDB I think. I have no idea why it would be selective without looking into your logs, but stranger things have happened.
I must admit, I am surprised that the Plex Dance worked on it’s own, I was expecting to see something quite different in your logs.
If Plex was still processing your Movies or TV Shows, then it may have been a case of the processor time being eaten up by the other processes and Plex not being able to complete the tasks for those particular files within the alloted time frame. Maintenance probably would have resolved that on it’s own though.
I did not include logs because I had rebooted the PC and the problem resolved itself. Would they still do any good??
I rebooted the PC after the problem resolved as it was time. I like to reboot every three or four days just to be on the safe side. I know it is probably not really needed but it seems to keep things running more smoothly that way and I believe that you cannot be too safe.
Thanks for your responses. Now if you could just explain the rest of the universe to me. I already know the meaning of life (42) but the remaining mysteries still need to be explained. Like “Why do we drive on parkways and park on driveways?”
@trumpy81, guess what? Just a bit ago the server that had the problem rescanned its library. During the scan it unmatched some of the movies it matched before. The ones I noticed were the two newer versions of “Day of the Triffids.” One was a British made for TV ,ovie from 1981 and the other a US TV movie from 2009. My other servers are all correct on those movies, one is on a PC and the other is on a Shield TV.
This is also the first time a matched movie unmatched.
You should also know that there are two libraries that include the problem files the one called “Movies” is the one that matched then unmatched the one called “FavMovies” I think never matched but I did not check until now. I did the whole Plex Dance thing on both libraries actually twice and the computer has been rebooted twice as well.
My logs are attached.
BTW: The problem computer is not the fastest it has a I5 processor that has a Passmark of about 9000. It also has no hardware acceleration. But it only serves one stream at a time.
This is my first time here, i hope i’m doing this correctly.
I was running my server off my windows pc for a while and this year decided to get a synology ds218+.
I’m having a very similar issue with a few “made for tv movies” or “mini series” not matching despite having matched on my other server (windows pc) and showing up when i click fix match.
The files are properly named, and I have been plex danced many times. I’m definitely not an expert when it comes to this nas life and wasn’t able to repair the database. My logs should be attached. Thank you so much for your help!Plex Media Server Logs_2019-02-09_21-50-04.zip (3.2 MB)
Thank you for your reply.
All the files in question are properly named for movies (thank you filebot) and I was hoping there would be a way to keep them in the movie folder (they matched no problem as movies on my other server.) The correct match shows up when i click “fix match” but no metadata loads, in fact after the plex dance, the proper movie poster showed up and when i clicked fix match, it was replaced with a random screen shot of the movies in question.
I will attempt to rename them and move them to the tv folder now.
Thanks again!
Edit: The match succeeded as tv shows for everything except one item, but i’ll take it as a win! thank you
