Okay so I have an Anime library in which I have all of my regular anime sorted by seasons and it all shows up correctly. This anime library is set as a TV Shows library, but I have 2 movies in there 5 Centimeters Per Second and Howls’ Moving Castle and for some reason when I press “Match” in my Anime library using the MovieDB it does not find Howl’s Moving Castle, but when I go into my Movie Library and use the same MovieDB to find Howl’s Moving Castle it shows up.
You are correct TV Shows use the TVDB and Movies use the IMDB and never the twain shall meet. However, if you MUST place the movies in the TV library (not recommended) you can first place them in the movie library and let them get all their metadata, then edit the movie and set all the padlocks on all the fields so they cannot be changed. Move the files on your drive to your TV library and name them similar to the other shows using to naming convention so it will be displayed in the right location under TV shows us an episode that doesn’t exist. I did this with Serenity the Movie (named it Firefly - s01e15 - Serenity the Movie.mp4, see image) and placed it in my Firefly directory so all things Firefly are in one place. Its a bit of a hassle but do-able.
This is not officially recommended and no warranty.

Just don’t put movies and TV shows together. It’s a warning on the Plex FAQ pages, and the results are never good.
That’s not really a solution to the problem. The Movie Database should find the movie when manually matched regardless of what type of library it is. The reason I posted this is to see if anyone else has ever had problems with titles not showing up when using the match database tool knowing that that title is in the database.

That helps, but manually entering the metadata can be a pain in the ass for multiple titles especially when the metadata is in The Movie Database, but is not showing.

That’s not how Plex was designed to operate. The solution is to not mix movies and TV shows together, per the FAQ. If the creators of Plex decided to keep TV shows and movies separate, then that’s what you should do.
You do not add the metadata. Place the movies in the movie library let PLEX collect the data. You don’t need to hand jam it. Granted you have to edit and select 6-7 padlocks before moving the file on the drive.
This is a one-off (no more than a couple) type solution. On a large scale I’d highly suggest you keep movies in the movie library so PLEX can do it all automatically. But I’m a sinner too, on a small scale.

I get that the creators of Plex decided to keep TV and movies separate, but they also decided to have The Movie Database as an agent in the the TV Shows and if that Movie Database agent is not finding a title that I know it should be then there is a bug there.
