Mcebuddy Settings

Can you guys post your comskip.ini?

I’m having a bit of a problem / worried about commercial detection / removal.

Thanks!

@johnm_ColaSC

So I am having an issue with ComSkip cutting out the beginning of The Ultimate Fighter - it cuts out everything before the first commercial break.

Just tested it again and the unprocessed show is 1:59:59 and the processed show is 1:38:36 - it might be that the shows seems to be already started so I’m going to change it to start a minute early and see if that corrects the issue.

What is the detect_method you are using? I use 107. Your best option might be to start the recording a minute earlier if the show is in fact already running when Plex starts recording. If you find a different detect_method would work better for this show you can setup different comskip files for different shows. If you find that is needed let me know and I can send more information on doing that, does require different mcebuddy conversion tasks.

@johnm_ColaSC

Sorry - I should have mentioned that I was using 107 as well
Yeah - already changed it to be 1 minute earlier

I just remember another post that you were talking about some other setting that you might have changed related to the Big Bang Theory and commercial detection. . . .

Just compared my comskip_BigBang.ini file to my file for other shows. The detect_method=107 is the same between files. Only differences I see are:
logo_at_bottom=1 ; Set to 1 to search only for logo at the lower half of the video, do not combine with subtitle setting
global_threshold=1.6 ; Any block that has a score above this value will be regarded as commercial, any score below will be regarded as show. Default value is 1.05

Pretty sure I got the global_threshold from another thread on the forum.

If you have the donator version of Comskip they provide a ComskipINIEditor.exe that can be found in the same folder as Comskip program. Can be useful if you are unsure what the various settings do.

Going to split this conversation out from the rest of the thread since the original question was marked answered.

@johnm_ColaSC

I do have the donators version . . . how are you using different ini files?

I’m guessing something within your batch file then?

I’m going to guess the in your post processing script that you are testing on the file name and then renaming the ini as needed before it continues on in the process?

Below is one of the lines from the post processing script that I grabbed from the web and I’m going to guess that %1 is the filename?
C:\Progra~1\MCEBuddy2x\MCEBuddy.UserCLI.exe --command=addfile --action=%1

Is the Big Bang Theory the only show that you treat like this or are there other shows?

If you are able can you post your post processing script? I don’t mind recreating the wheel but if I can avoid it . . . .I’d like too :slight_smile:

Thanks!!

No within mcebuddy. Big Bang has it’s own conversion task called Big Bang. Within the settings for the task in the Recording Title Match selection filter I have specified: The Big Bang*

Within one of my other tasks I then must specify to ignore Big Bang using something like: ";~The Big Bang "
Where the tilde ~ specifies to ignore The Big Bang. Edit: There should be an asterisk after Bang on line above, markdown for page is removing it.

Then in the settings for the specific task you specify the ini file to use:

1 Like

To answer your other questions: yes the %1 is the filename being passed into the script, there is actually also a %0 which is the name of the script called as well, not sure why we would need %0 but it is passed as a parameter.

No Big Bang is not the only one. I also run mcebuddy with a MP4 Normal profile for some other shows that I give a friend for his kids. Not shows I am really going to keep so I am not going to process them using Handbrake after they are added to Plex to convert to HEVC or h265.

My Post Processing Script is the same as found on the reddit article: https://www.reddit.com/r/PleX/comments/52v7vd/guide_commercialfree_experience_with_plex_dvr/

Since mcebuddy using separate conversion tasks handles what I want there was no need to recreate the wheel so to speak. The script written by another forum user works fine for my current purposes.

Good Morning @johnm_ColaSC

Thanks! not sure how I didn’t see that file match section and I wondered how you would use multiple conversion tasks . . but now it all makes sense!

I’m using that same post processing script and I was guessing that I was going to have to do some coding (which I can do, but was hoping to avoid lol)

I just run an HEVC .265 profile and I’ve not had any issues other then The Ultimate Fighter, some commercials not being cut in The Five and maybe worrying over my Doctor Who recordings. Now that I have an idea of how to setup different profiles . . . I just need the time to check all of the settings and make sure the shows are processed correctly!

Thanks again for all of the assistance!

@johnm_ColaSC

Would you be willing to post your ini file for Big Bang? I’ve included your suggestions above and it worked great on one test episode, but cut commercials and part of the episode for a second test.
