Media file analysis tool

Hi

Is there some sort of available analysis tool, 3rd party or otherwise, for windows that will interrogate a media file so as I can see why Plex windows server just refuses to scan into the database

I have used VLC to look at the codec of the file and from what I can see (though not sure what everything means) there is nothing wrong with the file itself, it plays in VLC and windows 10 play app

As far as the names of the files go they seem to conform to the correct convention.

I have series name followed by s01 to s06 then the title name

It is a TV series

Any help gratefully received.

Thanks

As for analyzing your media… check out “MediaInfo” (link in the support article on how to investigate your media – which is covering media you’ve already got in your library as well as pretty much any media).

As for why Plex might not be adding some files – this is most often about bad naming.
When it comes to tv shows, Plex expects a section in the name identifying both the season and episode.

Example:

TV Shows <- the folder linked to your tv-show library
Show Name <- the tv-show folder
Season XX <- season folder; stick with the English name, no translations
Show Name - sXXeYY - optional episode title.ext

Where XX is the season number, YY is the episode number and .ext is your respective file extension.

Post a screenshot of the files, it will allow us to identify any obvious naming issues.

Hi Thanks.

With your and Tom help I fixed the problem.

First thing I realised was I was trying to scan in 6 episodes of a TV series into a folder designated as movies. I have no idea if this would have worked becuase I also noticed an apostrophe in the filename that shouldnt have been there

Many thanks

It wouldn’t. https://support.plex.tv/articles/categories/your-media/
