Media Keeps Buffering on Direct Play

Hi,

My media keeps buffering even on direct play and im unsure of the issue. The only temporary fix is the reset my internet but the buffering returns after a couple of days. I’m not sure if this is a plex issue but any help would be appreciated.

1. What’s the bandwdth of the video file you’re trying to play?
   You can find this out usually by opening the properties of the file and going to Details

   
   
   if not, you’ll need to open it in something like VLC player and looking at the content bitrate there.

2. What’s the bandwidth of your internets upload?
   You can get this from https://us.broadbandspeedchecker.co.uk/ (DO NOT USE OOKLA SPEEDTEST.NET … Most ISPs unthrottle/prioritize your net when you test there to make your internet look better!)

If the files bandwidth is more than your server or net can handle in the UPLOAD speed, then it will buffer. you can fix this by going to Settings -> Remote Access -> and where it says "nternet upload speed [ ] Mbps ", put your upload speed there. If you have 10mbps, put 8. if you have 3mbps, put like 2 or 2.5.

Does this happen with any other clients, such as Plex Web?

Is the TV local or remote from the Plex server? Seems to be remote, but never hurts to verify…

If local, in Plex client on TV, check Media Server Status. What does it show - Nearby or Remote? If server and TV are local to each other but status shows remote, try setting DNS to a public server such as Google (8.8.8.8). See the DNS rebinding section in this article.

Your “Plex Media Server.log” file has many entries like this one:

On the Plex Server, check Settings -> Remote Access.

• What is the setting for Internet upload speed?
• What is the setting for Limit Remote Stream Bitrate?

In Plex client app, go to Settings -> Video. What are settings for Local/Remote/Online Quality & Direct Play/Stream?
Try these, if different than what is on your set:

Local Quality = Original
Remote Quality = Original
Online Quality = Original
Allow Direct Play = checked
Allow Direct Steam = checked
