The Shield is ready for a lot of things. Network attached storage is not one of them. Not yet anyhow.

I’ve returned my Shield because of this issue. Routinely dismounting and mounting my external content is a major pain in the A$$.

When Shield Plex is ready for market I’ll be back - unless something similar/better comes along.

Aside from the occasional issue that crops up from an app update (or a full on update to the new 2017 Nougat build) the Shield has been ready for some time now. I feel like you overreacted a bit by returning it unless you feel that there is a comparable product out there, which I don’t believe there is.

I don’t think its reasonable to expect a customer to put up with these issues (issues that make the product unusable) especially after shelling out $400.

I bought it as a Plex Server/Player - both of which, as far as I’m concerned, were misrepresented.

I wrote I’d come back unless something better comes along. So far I can’t find anything (except for a PopCorn Hour - which however does not have Plex but plays beautifully from my NASs) BUT Nvidia/Plex have STILL NOT fixed this issue along with a number of other issues. So why would I let them kick me in the ass again?

Any solution? I am having the same issue…

Same problem here, getting really fed up with it. Have had to rebuild my Plex library 4 times in the last few weeks and I’m lucky to get a few days out of it before this happens again. About ready to find another solution and wishing I hadn’t paid for Plex Pass as it’s not working for the only thing I bought it for. Should have just kept using the free version. Please figure out a fix before all your customers go insane. Thank you.

Literally my exact sentiments.

Whenever there is an issue with the Plex App I simply just use the Plex Add-On for Kodi.

Disconnecting and reconnecting my NAS works, but I still have to do that too often. About daily so far. It’s annoying and time consuming. Sometimes disconnecting takes minutes and a reboot is needed before I can try again. These problems have only occured since recently but seeing how annoying it is, I really hope plex/nvidia is getting a solution out pronto.

Yea…Kodi doesn’t help as this looks to be a Nvidia issue?

Everybody who’s having this problem, try setting the disk sleep timer on your NAS to the maximum, then dismount and remount the share from the Shield.

This resolved it for me.

My problem (I think) was that once the NAS had gone to sleep, the Shield marked the mount as ā€œunavailableā€ and never checked it again. By setting the NAS timeout to the maximum you massively reduce the chance that the NAS will be sleeping when the Shield accesses it.

My NAS has HDD hibernation turned off so that is about as good as I can get? What about scheduling Plex to search the NAS for content every hour or so in hopes of not losing the mount settings within Shield?

That might work.

An alternative would be to use an automation tool that runs on the Shield like Automate: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.llamalab.automate&hl=en

I’ve not tried it, but it claims to install and run on the Shield. Even supports WoL.

I’ve already set my NAS to never sleep but that still doesn’t solve it. Automate may be usefull, but let’s be honest: it’s only a workaround. I want this to be solved. It clearly is an issue with plex/nvidia as the problem started for me since the last update for shield. Before that I had no serious issues with plex, other than the occasional unwillingness to find a complete series (ā€œit’s right THERE!ā€).

Just an FYI that the 5.1 update that I got last night did not fix this issue. I was hoping it would, but nope!

I’ve got some back and forth going with nvidia customer service. I’ll post back if anything comes of it.

When I got the 5.1 update it lost the connection to the networked storage. I simply reconnected it in the Sheild TV settings and the issue was resolved.

Sounds like for myself and most everyone else that after we re-setup the network connections that they eventually break again. You, I believe, are a minority.

I confirm that. If I reboot my shield, the share is automatically mounted, but finally disapears a few minutes later.
If I re-setup the connection, then now everything works as expected, and the share is still mounted days after.
Very strange!

I am having the same issue but with USB mounted storage. It has to be a shield thing. I can access the storage fine remotely but the Plex server still says unavailable.

I just want to add that I have been experiencing this problem too. It’s a fairly recent problem with the last update. I got so sick of having to remount my connection to the NAS that I disabled the Shield Plex server and went back to just running Plex Server on my QNAP NAS. There’s now a beta version for Plex Pass members which supports hardware transcoding. It’s making my NAS into a more capable server than it was before with just software transcoding. I think I’d still prefer to have the Shield as my Plex server though, as that had worked really well before these problems. I hope they can fix this soon.

Hope this gets fixed soon. Pretty damn annoying since I only got the Shield for Plex

Adding another voice to the choir. I feel like there was an old thread about this and someone said NVIDIA was working on it, but having trouble finding it now.
