Hi everyone.
I had my own home movie library “other movies” and for years everything worked ok on all my devices that i use to view Plex. - Samsung Smart TV and several Amazon Fire sticks.
The library view for the section always showed 4 movie icons per line (in landscape format).
Last night I wanted to tidy up the server so I deleted the section then re-added it once complete.
Now, on my Samsung TV app and my fire sticks, the selection when I move across to select “Library” from the Recommended/Library/Categories list is now 6 icons per line in portrait format.
Although obviously still playing the files with no issue, it just doesn’t look as pleasing as previously, the snapshot of the video is harder to make out and just looks a lot more cluttered.
On my Windows plex app, I know the layout/size of the icons is governed by the slider in grid view but this doesn’t appear in the TV/Amazon Fire apps.
As it was fine until readding the library, I assume this is hopefully a quick fix?
Any help appreciated.
Recreating this library has probably chamnged its metadata agent from the deprecated Python-based one, to the modern agent.
While this does indeed cause the poster change you are observing, it also makes the library fit for future enhancements. (and the legacy agents will be relatively soon-ish unusable anyway)
The background is this: a library full of personal videos rarely has actual posters in portrait format available, so landscape thumbnails are more suitable for this kind of content.
So, there is unfortunately no quick fix. Except re-creating the library again, this time using the deprecated agent.
However, this is not something I would encourage you to do.
Thanks for the quick reply OttoLerner.
Totally agree landscape icons are more suitable. As said, I’ve now gone from 4 landscape to 6 portrait
It’s a shame the tv apps (Smasung/Amazon Fire) don’t have the view settings available.
When I first opened the library on my Windows app, it too was 6 portrait icons but the slider was set at it’s most reduced. As soon as I scrolled the size bar across it turned the icons into what I was used to
Incidentally, I’ve noticed the files are landscape and as I want in the Recommended tab, but if I click left to “Library” they’re the new smaller portrait icons.
Strange.
