Hi all,
I’m having trouble getting Plex to recognize a folder of music added to my library. The folder is organized buy the band name, then the album name, then the song titles all in MP3 format. When I add it to the correct folder, I tell the server to scan and it just doesn’t find the newly added music. I’ve downloaded the logs from the server, but what log should have the error?
Thank you, but it didn’t help. The folders are named as all the others are in the library and is in a subfolder next to all other music folders. All folder and file names are standard and do not include excluded words.
What exactly do you mean with “it”?

Thanks Otto… I reviewed the article points but I’m not seeing any issues with the folder I’m adding. The folder permission are the same as every other folder in the same directory. All music is kept in the same folder, broken down by artist name, then album title. I know the share is mounted correctly, because if it wasn’t all the music files would be inaccessible.
This is perfect for Plex.
If you have also enabled “prefer local metadata” in the properties of your music library, the embedded metadata (particularly the “Album Artist” tag) must convey the same information as your folder names.
How do you know the music files are accessible, if none of them appears in your Plex music library?
Keep in mind this isn’t about YOU having permission to see the files but the system account used to run your Plex Media Server. Unless you overrode the default settings, a Plex Media Server on Linux will run as user plex.
It’s one folder that doesn’t appear… All the other show and work correctly. I’ll check on the local metadata option.
So, I tried running a scan and going to the console in Plex while the scan was running. It acknowledges the artist and the album but it still doesn’t show in the music library…
