media playback failed

I have persistent media playback failed when playing movies/tv shows. I am on Version 1.10.0.4516 on my PC and watch it on my xbox one thats wired to the same router as the PC. Im sure I will have to provide logs as explaining it wont do much  im just not sure when to acquire the logs. during a playback failure, or just grab one now?

Thank you

for starters you could attempt narrowing this down. do you get the same error when playing videos on a different client (plex web)? that should help identify what log you should go for (client vs. server side).

Thanks for the reply  I’ve only ever noticed it on my Xbox one, that’s where we watch.

In that case you’re probably best off by looking at the clientā€˜s log (should be accessible/mentioned in settings. Doesn’t need to be immediately after an error as long as you remember when the last error occurred (where in the look to look for)

ill look there and post it. Thank you

I went to settings/web/debug and that didn’t look like what ive seem here. so then i checked settings/server/help and chose to download logs, which looks more like what I have seen here. Is this correct?

Correct, that’s the server log. However I consider the information you’re looking for are on the Xbox. Is there a similar entry in the Xbox Plex clientā€˜s Settings? (Sorry… I’ve got no Xbox at hand to provide more guidance for that part… on the Android TV client thereā€˜s an option to temporarily enable access to the log in your home network, also displaying the exact path/URL).

Tom.

i think ive seen that before, ill check.

there is, i think. Its called ā€œLog to media serverā€ under the privacy settings. I enabled it as it said it will allow the xbox to send logs to the media server.

I think I will have to let it stay enabled until the failure happens again, then I can post that log.

wow - there are alot of logs listed. which one should i post?

just deleted plex and installed the latest Version 1.11.1.4730. ill let that soak for a bit and keep logs running.

I also performed the following:

  • increased the Transcoder default throttle buffer from 60 to 300 seconds
  • increased the Background transcoding x264 preset from slow to fast
  • checked the box for Use hardware acceleration when available (hoping my Nvidia gtx1050i will help. fingers crossed)
