My installation of the Plex media player app has begun displaying visual artifacts in its interface (see attached). I’m baffled. I’ve deleted all related files and reinstalled to no avail.

Indeed. I note this has been languishing for over a month. What does it take to get a response out of Plex?
Ach! My bad. I’d inadvertently enabled Plex Pass downloads and ended up with version 2.1.1.703-79cdfa5c. Reverting to 1.3.10.720-dfcd90a6 has solved the problem.
