Media server connectivity issue not specified in support

To staff:

While inspecting your support article about server connectivity inside a local network:

https://support.plex.tv/articles/204604227-why-can-t-the-plex-app-find-or-connect-to-my-plex-media-server/

I spent almost 2 hours trying to figure out what’s the problem cause the article is not updated. The article mentions only the server side configuration and settings around connectivity issues, but nothing is said about settings on the clients side which consumes media from the local media server.

in each client I had to check in the plex settings: “allow unsecure connections” under “advanced”, to make the client see the media server, which before it just couldn’t, no matter what changes were made on the server side under network settings (checked secure connections - “preferred”).
Clients in my local network are android base, Chromecast and android tv.

You should update the support article so people will be aware of this.

Odds are you have a bigger issue. that setting shouldn’t be needed, and in fact can be dangerous to leave active.

Can you post a copy of your server logs and we might be able to see what is going on?

Sure no problem, will greatly appreciate your input,
my router is a Tp-link VR600,
clients are 1 Chromecast, 1 Roku, 2 android based streamers, all under the same router

first note: you have CGNAT

(Still looking for other issues)

If I understood your reference link correctly,

its meant for IP translation between my private network and my ISP?

The use of this is determined by the router settings?

Why can this be a negative issue?

How are you mate?
Still here?

Im here, just got a LOT going on IRL, one other thing to check for is DNS rebinding protection. CGNAT is covered to a degree under https://support.plex.tv/articles/200931138-troubleshooting-remote-access/
