Media Server hangs

Server Version#: Version 1.18.5.2309
Player Version#: any

Since a couple of days the Plex server hangs after X time.
When loggin in on Mac mini through remote desktop. Plex is still active but no content is displayed on apple TV. Via webplayer nothing happens either. Nothing on iPhone or iPad. So the player is not the problem. The server seems to be hanging. A friend who is running plex also has the same issue. Also running the server on macOS.

Server hangs almost daily. This is what I found in my logs :

This is the last lines of logs before a user reported to me that the player did not want to load any library. After that you can see that I manually exited plex and restarted the server. Now it will run for X hours before arriving in the same state.

Mod-Edit: added code-tags around the log for readability

When going through my server I saw the debug log was on.
I deactivated it. Cannot remember I put it on. Since I have not had a crash anymore.
Is it possible the debug log was activated with an update ?

It is definitely not the debug mode. Tonight again an unresponsive plex server.

Just saw this post…
if you want somebody to look into your logs:

  • enable debug logging (not verbose!)
  • download the full logs and upload the entire ZIP file to the forum (the extract you posted above gives only a glimpse into what’s happening)

If you want to, you can afterwards disable debug logging.

Thanks for your reply. In attach the server logs. What I can tell. Behaviour started like a week , a week and a half ago. Then only thing that happens on the server is Plex updates. So I guess it came with the latest version.

A friend who is also plex lifetime has exactly the same problem. Server becomes irresponsive on the enduser side. Unavailable to plex on the apple tv. To plex in the ios app, or over a simple web connection.

On the backend the media server is still running. But you have to quit it, restart it and then it becomes available again. FYI. Yesterday evening it had it. I restarted the media server app. This morning it was not responding again. So every say 8 to 10 hours , this problem occurs.

I will repost a full log tomorrow guessing the problem will re’ occur 2 times by then.

Also another info. A colleague who is not on a plex pass that is in a lower version, does not have that behaviour. Working on same infrastructure. macOS and plex media server.

Ok, firstly which MacOS version are you running. Your Server Model Please? Do you use Plex for Music?

This is a strange one in that I have seen no major issue with my iMac Running Catalina or Mojave over two years.

I am Using a Mac mini late 2014
OS = 10.14.6 with the latest security updates since this afternoon.

I have been a Plex user for years. Always been running it on MacOS and already moved from one mac mini to a newer one.

This system is only clean installed since a few months. And for the first time in years I have this weird behaviour. But strangely enough on the exact same time I see the same behaviour with other Plex friends who are using mac mini aswell. So there must obviously be something wrong.

Just now that I am posting no acces anymore to plex.

This morning it was down again. The server is still running but even on the server itself it says in the browser it is unavailable. I restarted the server. Then took a fresh pair of logs.

What do you mean by that? No connection from the browser to only Plex (via 127.0.0.1:32400/web) or no access to the internet in general?

So I can login into Plex. Plex.tv but server appears offline.
Available on local host. 127.0.0.1 But the server itself with media content appears offline.
I will make a screenshot next time it happens.

I came here searching for this very thread. I just updated to 1.18.5.2309 two days ago and am seeing this exact same behavior. My Plex server is now unstable. Client connections to the server will show no library can be loaded. A systemctl status on the server shows service is running but it is not functioning for clients. I have to restart service to restore functionality. Have had to do this twice now last two days.

  • Plex Version: 1.18.5.2309
  • Player version: when Issue occurs it can be replicated on the Roku client and via web client. Neither will function until service restart.
  • OS Version: Ubuntu 18.04

Thanks!
.

Haha, looks the version has same issue to all of us.

Same exact issue on 2019 Mac Mini. must close and restart plex server to get it to respond. Running version 1.18.5.2309. Seems to be a problem with this last update. Can we downgrade?

Another pair of logs , this morning it de server was stil running on mac mini but on the web page sevice unavailable.

I’m having the same problem since last update. My Plex server is on a macBook Pro 2017, Catalina 10.15.3

The same at my side. It seems that ios Apps cause the crash after some minutes. PLEX PLEASE HELP

Having the same issue here since the last few days, plex still running on my windows server 2019, but cannot be reached. Have to restart the service (it runs as service on my server) and its right back. Happens randomly every few hours ish, could upload log if needed.

Saw a new release , but my server was not offerig to update.
I manually updated towards this release. I hope it is more starble.
