Version 1.1.3.2700

I have been using Plex media server for a few years now with a LGTV media link, since this last update where i have to autorise a device IP without login, cannot get it to work.
I include the IP in the box marked ‘List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth’
i have logged out and in, restarted the server several times but still does not work.
Secured box is in ‘Preferred’
Do I still need to include something for it to work? its getting a bit frustrating.
TV is connected to the same router/network not wireless.
Please help i have run out of ideas

If this is not working - would need some diagnostics to get it looked into

This is how I would expect it to work ok with LG Media link

Ensure the IP Address of the LG TV is fixed and do that through having a DHCP Reservation in the router or a static IP Address but would be outside the DHCP Range - but within the local subnet

Test that this IP gets allocated every time by restarting the TV and see that the same IP remains assigned

Restart the Plex Media Server.

Enter the LG TV IP Address on the Server / Setting / Network / Show Advanced screen in the field
List of IP addresses and networks that are allowed without auth
eg 192.168.0.200 if that is the IP of the LG TV
Save the changes
Restart the Plex Media Server

Try to use Medialink and when it fails to find the server, note down the time, the IP Address of the LG TV and get a screenshot of the Network Settings page and locate the Plex Media Server.log and attach here as file attachment together with the noted info and screenshot

See this support page for log file location
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/articles/200250417-Plex-Media-Server-Log-Files

Debug Logging should be enabled by default so no need to set it in advance unless you had it unset

Hi thanks for the comprehensive answer, I went through your first two instructions and still did not work here is the info:
Medialink failed to start 09.11(network status screenshot)
LGTV IP 192.168.1.72

I had the same, LG TV too. Logout your server (general tab). Thats the only thing that helps. Playing with security settings doesnt. Of course that will make you unable to watch movies over the internet, only local network will work.

Thank you for the comprehensive diagnostic information. This has now been referred as an issue to the development team

Could you in the meanwhile change the Server Network Settings with Show Advanced to disable support for ipv6 and save changes and restart the server and repeat the test and advise if that makes any difference. If not, please let me have a new Plex Media Server.log

@dargeth: any chance you can PM me a copy of your database? That way I can try to reproduce the request the client is making against your actual data.

@dargeth - the issue I saw in the log is not something new and is no longer thought to be the problem.

You said you got Medialink failed to start 09.11
Is that referring to time 21:11 ?
I can see in the log the LG TV successfully requesting library and server info in periods 21:05:38 to 21:05:42 and then from 21:14:09 to 21:14:26.

It got a list of all the libraries
and specific media files info was returned to the LG TV on 192.168.1.72
So what was visible on the TV from 21:14 onwards ?

The error in the log was specific to a massive request for a music library where it asked for the whole content info and this was rejected - as I said this was not new

So exactly what is not working ?

Out of 349 requests from the LG TV at 21:05 and 21:14 only 2 were rejected by the server
Did you add any new libraries to the server recently

The 2 requests that were rejected by the server were for a music library - when the LG asked for the whole contents

Sorry for late reply, working late shifts.
how do i go about sending you a copy of my database?
thanks

@sa2000
Yes it was 21.11
For some wierd reason i cannot upload a screesnshot of the error message on the TV, website says failed to upload file.
Basically its a message with a Warning red triangle and Not Found in the middle of the screen.
I can view and play content via Smart Share app but not Media link for me it does not make any sense.
I’m going to try uninstalling Plex, reinstall it again see if that helps.

I have verified (and users have as well) that LG Smartshare works ok with whitelisting the IP Address of the LG TV within the List of IP Addresses and Networks Not Requiring Auth

For some reason LG Medialink is not and needs the whole subnet to be whitelisted. I am trying to get to the root cause of that. One theory is that LG Medialink uses both Plex DLNA Server and Plex Media Server and may be we have an issue with how it is being done.

I need to get all the log files - including Plex DLNA Server log files for a test with Medialink and perhaps also enabling verbose logging on the server. It might be best if you just copy out the whole Logs folder and zip the copy and attach that. Zipping the copy ensures none get skipped. Any open files get skipped when zipping.

So enable verbose and debug logging within settings / server / general show advanced
make sure you do not log tokens
On the Server Networks Advanced Settings enter the IP Address of the TV as before
Make sure IP has not changed - can[t remember if you had it as DHCP Reserved.
Restart the server
Do the test
Get the logs and time of failure. Take picture of the screen and you can zip the screenshots and picture and attach as well as zip of the logs and time of the test and the No Files error

I can confirm exactly the same problem, with LG Medialink (but not LG Smartshare, which works). Problem has only existed since the latest update. Whitelisting the TV IP, and reserving its DHCP does not help, nor does restarting the server, TV or computer (running MacOS 10.11.6, FWIW). Toggling IP6 on/off makes no difference. Also tried whitelisting the external service-provider-assigned IP, which does not resolve issue.

Very frustrating. There are workarounds (Smartshare or Googlecasting), but I’d really like this functionality restored…

Forgot to add… I can connect to the server on the same local network via other devices (iOS), and the problem isn’t a total absence of connection. The TV connects to my server computer, but only shows Video Channels and Music Channels, not the media content on my server.

Hi,
I’ve got exactly the same problem as Dargeth, after the 09.11 update I couldn’t connect my LG TV with Medialink to my Plex Server anymore (it was working perfecly fine for 2 years). If I try to open Medialink, it’s displayed"No media server found" and if I try to switch the TV source to Plex Media Server I can see a giant thumbnail showing my movies thumbnails inside but if I try to select this source my TV shows “No Files”. If I try to add my LG TV IP adress on my Plex server, I would get a pixelated black screen instead of “no files” (like my TV is trying to display somehting from Plex) BUT Medialink is still displaying “no media server found”. Does anyone have any idea what’s broken? Thanks for your help ;o)

The issue has been registered with the development team

The current solution is

For LG Smartshare - it is sufficient to just have the LG TV IP (DHCP Reserved or Static outside DHCP Range) in the List of IP Addresses and Networks Not Requiring Auth

For LG Medialink, you need to have two IP Addresses specified, the one for the LG TV and the IP Address of the Plex Media Server. If more than one network interface (not really recommended for a Plex Media Server) you would list all IP addresses of the Plex Media Server as well as the LG TV IP

I own LG TV as well, and I believe I am having the same issue as others. There’s no content available when I try to connect to PLEX installed in my desktop machine. It was working 15 min ago before I push upgrade button. v1.1.3.2700 clearly broke this function with LG TV. It’s got static IP address.

Hi,

I had the same issue. My plex server is on QNAPNAS TS-453Pro Firmware version 4.2.2 Build 20160901 and running PLEXPMC on Kodi installed on the same QNAP. I had the Plex Media Server Ver. 1.0.0.2261. When updated to 1.1.0.2611 the PLEXPMC stopped working. I mean, it was working but not multimedia content was showing. It was able to connect to the server and the channels were showing but not multimedia content. I tried tweaking everything, IP Addresses, DHCP reservations, restarting both the NAS and the Plex Server. Nothing worked at all.

Luckily, I still had the Plex Media Server previous version file, so, I installed it back. And everything was working again.

I waited for a new update that might have fixed that problem and there comes ver. 1.1.0.2611, so I installed it. And guess what!!! same problem. Again, tried everything but nothing worked. So, I just installed again the older working version which is 1.0.0.2261. I will keep this qpkg file available until Plex figure out the problem with their updates. In the end, Why fix what is not broken, specially if the fix brakes what you have???

Maybe the version number is different for windows or apple, but if you have the version that was released before Jun, 26th 2016, use that one. (Simply, use the last version that was working)

All the best of luck for all of you.

Yes - for Medialink the answer is given in the post above yours above. For Medialink need to have 2 IP Addresses specified in the List of IP Addresses and Networks Not Requiring Auth
The IP of the LG TV and the IP of the Plex Media Server separated by a comma. No spaces

I hadn’t used Plex since July 2016 but now upgraded to the latest build (iOS as well as QNAP) and my older (non-webos) LG Smart TV Media Link app no longer works even though DNLA is still enabled. When I rescan I see my Plex server listed but when I select it the message “No media server found” is displayed. I now managed to fix it by adding to the List of IP Addresses and networks Not Requiring Auth: 192.168.0.0/255.255.255.0 rather than specific IPs so my TV still uses DHCP to get its IP (i.e. I included the entire subnet here) and my problem is solved!

You could use version 1.1.4 of plex media server and make the dhcp supplied IP address of the LG TV a dhcp reservation and then just enter that IP address in the list of ip addresses and networks not requiring auth

I’ve tried a couple of versions of server - I’m currently gone back to 1.0.3.2461. I can use plex on IOS and browser, but my LG TV Plex app just asks me to sign in every time, and then can’t find the server.

This problem began after installing 1.1.3 I have my LG TV IP (192.168.1.99) set to not req authorisation on the server.

The only way to use Plex currently on the LG TV is to enter the auth code via plex.tv/link then manually enter the IP address of my server (192.168.1.11) as soon as I exit Plex no settings are saved.
