Ok, restarted PC. Note, there’s nothing Plex in the “tray” but Plex is in the Start Menu. Is this ok prior to downloading & installing new Media Server? I ask as I’m terrified of doing something stupid & undoing your hard work
Just install the server now.
That’s expected and doesn’t concern us.
New Plex installed. Shall I “run” it?
Of course.
That’s it up & running. It’s looking for the server & hasn’t found it…Yet … hopefully
Do you have the Plex icon now in the task tray?
Open a web browser and point it to http://localhost:32400/web
No icon in task tray
http://localhost:32400/web Can’t be reached
Let it sit for another hour or so, since the newest version is performing quite extensive database modifications at first start.
In the meantime, try to answer these questions:
Did you at one point use some kind of “uninstaller” software or “registry optimizer” or the like?
Do you remember customizing your Plex server installation by moving the plex data folder away from its default location?
I’m getting Movies & Shows, Live TV etc just not the items I have stored in my PC. I can confirm for sure I’ve never used uninstaller software or registry optimizers & I’m pretty sure I’ve never moved any of the Plex folders. It’s only the interaction with you that has led to me working with the Plex folders
I’m very aware that you’ve been helping me for ages today & I’m so grateful. let’s take a break & see if my PC material is found. I’ll leave the software running. Again, many many thanks
OK, see if you can get some Plex server logs (the “manual” way).
Good morning Otto. As yet, Plex is still not finding my server. I’ve located the server logs, there are 8 in total - DLNA Server Neptune, DLNA Server Neptune Old, DNLA Server (1 to 5) & DNLA Server. Any log in particular?
Plex Media Server.log is the main one.
Please take also a look into your Windows Registry. Go to the registry branch which is mentioned in this post and look for the key named LocalAppDataPath [HowTo] An extended guide on how to move the Plex data folder on Windows
If it does exist, look at its content.
It should be a drive letter and folder path. See if this location is still existing in your computer.
Plex Media Server.log (446.2 KB)
I’ll now have a look at the registry
I’m having trouble here. Not sure if I’m in the right place. HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server. Is this where I should be?
Yes. Is it missing? Or empty? If so, did you create a new Windows user account on this machine recently?
Its not there. I haven’t created a new Windows user account recently
What exactly is not there? The whole branch HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Plex, Inc.\Plex Media Server
or just the single key LocalAppDataPath?
Just the single key
