Media Server Will Not Update

Server Version#:1.20.5.3600
Player Version#: 2.58.0.1076-38e019da

As my earlier post, I am unable to update Plex Media Server when told an update is available. When I click on the icon to update I’m told to grab my cup of tea whilst installation takes place but the update does not install. When I click “Retry Connection” it still does not install. This update problem only happens with Plex. All other software I have on my PC (Windows 10),updates fine when prompted to do so. Can anyone advise please. Thank you.

it may be a bug within the built in plex self update process
not sure it is now but definitely was in the past
I’ve chosen to manually stop plex, manually uninstall plex , manually update plex.
like this I’ve fixed some update issues I had in the past like stuck forever on checking for update or there’s an update available when there wasn’t
i hope it helps u and u get it fixed

I strongly advise you to perform at least a health check of your Plex database. Performing a full database repair procedure can’t hurt either.
These are the instructions for your current server software version:
(do NOT try to upgrade before performing the repair/check) Repair a Corrupt Database 1.22.0 and earlier | Plex Support

After the check is returning OK or the repair procedure was successful, do this:

  • Stop/quit/end Plex Server with the tray icon
  • deinstall Plex Server with the regular ‘Apps’ control panel of Windows
(do not use 3rd party ‘Uninstaller’ software like Revo etc.
do not use “Registry Cleaner/optimizer” software like CCleaner et al)
  • for safety, reboot Windows
  • download the installation exe of the newer version and install it

Thank you so much for helping.
