I have a MAC v 10.15.4 , I’m trying to use my external HD to load all my media. I created an account and login but every time i download the ‘server’ it loads then just takes me back to my home page and there is no where, anywhere to load or add my external media? What am I missing?
Server Version#:1.20.1.3252-a78fef9a9
Player Version#:
See Creating Libraries for information on creating a library and adding your media.
Plex has file naming and organization requirements. Movies, TV Shows, and personal media must be kept in separate directories (ex: /Movies, /TV Shows, etc). See Your Media for additional details.
when i follow the steps i have privacy enabled ect but under the plex settings there is no manage tab, no libraries tap? nothing. I don’t even see the options to add or access my storage?
Login to the server using the IP address of your Mac: https://plex_server_ip_address:32400/web/index.html (substitute the IP address of your Plex server).
Select the Settings icon in upper right corner of the Plex home page.
What do you see? Can you post a screenshot? Just drag the pic into the message window, it will auto-insert at the cursor location.
On the left, you should see your username at the top, with a section for Plex Web, then your server name, followed by sections for status, settings, manage, etc.
Before OP worries about drives and adding libraries, I think they need to get access to the server & server settings. The server isn’t listed in the screenshot that was provided.
OP were you ever prompted to complete a setup wizard, or to claim the server?
Have you previously used PMS on this computer, perhaps with a different username?
Do you realize he can’t find his drives full stop? Is that not a concern?
Finding the server may well be as the OP title. Can not access my storage?
Volts can you explain this please.
Well I can’t unless he does not have access full stop. I’m surmising that he has server access, example the free movies and TV, but NO Home based content on Drives
he is a new user and does not know all terminology and does not know what is happening. Meaning he doesn’t know what things are supposed to look like.
You can see in his image in this post that there is no server settings which means web app cannot see a server at all else there would be server settings there. He is just asking how to create a library and tell Plex where his drives are but he can’t because web app can’t see server. So the drives are not the issue it is the server not being shown
Though it is partially cut off in his image I can see that he is opening web app from 127.0.0.1 which means that the server is installed and running else that would not come up. One common cause of that is if the server was previously installed on that computer but claimed under a different Plex account so his current Plex account he is using cannot see it.
But it does not explain he can not locate his external Drives Icon/Disk image on Desktop or in Finder. No drives present, no content available. Is this more than one issue.
Then again Drury may not understand the needs, correct.
he never said he could not do that. what he can’t see is how to add his drive to server. which he can’t do because the server is not showing up in web app.
i used it with a different email and account but never finsihed set up so just started over with a new email and account. And you are 100% correct i can’t finalize the setup it seems i just opens ups the plex page with without all the intermediate steps I’ve seen online in setup. no setup wizzard or claim the server options.
this is 100% right, this is my issue, and i can’t get to ‘b’ before a is complete but i don’t understand why every time i laugh plex it won’t give me any of the options everyone else seems to have. I do the downloads for my MAC and install what i think is plex server it ‘loads’ but i just get the screen i showed above.
That makes sense. If the server is running but claimed through a different account, you won’t automatically get access to it - even if it’s on the same computer.
The easiest thing to do is to delete the Plex Media Server preferences file. Then you can “claim” it as the user you want.
Stop Plex Media Server if it’s running.
In the macOS Finder:
Go menu -> Go to Folder ... (or Cmd-Shift-K)
Go to the folder: “~/library/preferences”
Delete com.plexapp.plexmediaserver.plist
Restart Plex Media Server, and open the Preferences.
You should now have the option to Claim the server.
