Media volume not controlled with keys while screen sharing on Plexamp

Server Version#:1.32.0.6973
Player Version#:4.6.3
I have a samsung S20 5G with android 13 and One UI V.5.1

I use Smart View to screen share my music playlist to my TV and connect audio to Bluetooth speaker. I also use Musixmatch floating lyrics so that lyrics automatically display at each new song.

Only when using Plexamp, the volume keys on the phone default to control TV volume instead of media or Bluetooth. Which when I’m serving guests is kinda a pain to open the entire volume controls select the bluetooth and slide it to appropriate volume. This does not occur with the regular Plex app, Amazon Music, Samsung Music player, or you tube.

So, you might ask, why not just turn on the volume slider in Plexamp. Well, i have it on but it doesn’t show on screen in lanscape mode.

Ok, how about just using the regular Plex App Player? That would be fine except the lyrics do not automatically come up in Musixmatch as each song in the playlist is played. If I wanted the lyrics to show i have hit the Musixmatch button at each song or restart song each time.

Interesting that this problem also occurs with my Samsung tablet. On the tablet though the Plexamp volume slider shows in landscape mode even though the volume keys dont work. The tablet takes too much space on my bar.

Anyone have any solutions so I can use my phone to mirror to TV, play to my Bluetooth stereo, automatically show each song’s lyrics and use phone’s volume keys to control volume? This really doesn’t seem like a huge ask…

Cmon, no one else has this problem?

Check Settings > Advanced > Remote Control > Use Hardware Volume

Thanks for the help, but, it behaves the same whether that is on or off.

Problem solved, or at least explained.

So I got another samsung s20 for Verizon since Verizon didnt support wifi calling on the other 2 s20 5g models I had.

The refurbished verizon s20 5g UW (sm-g981v) I got came with Android 12 and the volume keys worked with Plex Amp while screen sharing, Bluetooth sound to stereo and musixmatach lyrics automatically advanced at each new song. I thought, great! It must have been the model of the S20 5G, but, it was not…

Over the next couple days, the phone installed a series of over a dozen updates. After each update I tested Plexamp volume key control with screen sharing, Bluetooth audio and Musixmatch floating music auto advancing at next song (let’s call this “the goal” going forward).

At about update #6, it upgraded from android 12 to 13 and “the goal” failed. The keys controlled the TV volume, not Bluetooth and there was no way to overide it. This made sense to me because the other androids I have that were V12, plexamp volume keys worked. The other S20 5G that didn’t work also was Android V13.

I was disappointed and frustrated. Then something really weird happened. I let the phone continue to finish all the updates and PlexAmp never achieved the goal, but… the plex app achieved “the goal” including automatically advancing Musixmatch floating lyrics! I have another post in here about Musixmatch lyrics not automatically advancing in the plex app, but somehow that has since been fixed! HOORAY! I dont know if Plex fixed or if Musixmatch fixed it but it now works on all three of my S20 5Gs both Android 12 & 13!

Conclusion is if you want to achieve screen sharing, Bluetooth audio, volume key control with automatically showing lyrics at each new song with Musixmatch, it now works on the Plex app on both Android 12 &13.

On PlexAmp, you will lose volume key control on Android 13, but it works on Android 12. Don’t know why, but at least now the PlexApp achieves “the goal”.
