Merge Recently Added Items does not work... and then works.... and then does not work

This feature does not work. And then it works. And then it does not work.

Let me explain:

For “Movies” I actually have four separate libraries: Movies, Short Films, Theatre, and Theme Parks.
For “Music” I have three pinned libraries: Music, Showtunes, and Soundtracks.

I have multiple players, but the same thing happens on all of them. I’m using Plex fort Android TV on the Nvidia Shield, Tivo Stream 4k, and Xiami MiBox. Also Roku, the Windows app,. and via the browser (firefox in Windows). The problem manifests itself mostly in Windows app, but it happens on the other clients as well. Server is running on Windows Server Essentials on an HP Proliant MicroServer with all local storage - some SSD, some standard hard drives.

Basically the problem is the recently added items from Theatre, Theme Parks, and Short Films sometimes just disappear from the home screen where they should show up merged with the “Movies” recently added items. Same deal for Music. If I go into the Windows app and re-scan any one of the libraries, they appear again merged in the Recently Added lines as they should. It doesn’t matter what library I refresh. For example, I can refresh a music library and the items will re-appear in the movies “recently added items” as well. Basically forcing a re-scan of anything makes them show up again, even if nothing new is available to scan.

These libraries are all pinned in the players, and in the library management configuration I have them all set to display recently added items on the home screen and on the managed users home screen.

This has always been the case for me since the “merge” checkbox appeared in the server settings. In other words, it’s actually never worked right.

I have found other threads about this, but they are all slightly different than my issue, which is intermittent.

I’m not really having any other issues other than music will not play on any Android TV devices, but I’m certainly not the only one having that issue.

Any suggestions on the library merging problem?

I am having a similar issue where Library X and Y “Recently Added” should be combined in the 1 row on the Home screen. While this does happen, I also get separate “recently added” rows for both libraries on the home screen. Makes the Home screen rather cluttered and harder to find what you’re looking for.

Also, on the Apple TV client, it actually displays the combined “recently added” 3 times!
