Messy Dr Who Universe

Hello all,

I’m sure this has been addressed for other shows but I’m having an issue with all my Doctor Who series not sorting properly.

I have Doctor Who, The Sarah Jane Adventures, Torchwood all in a folder. Each show is sorted in separate folders, and by sub folders for each season.

For some reason plex has them all bunched together and when for example, I THINK i’m playing Doctor Who S01E02, its actually playing a Torchwood episode. Interesting enough, Torchwood and SJA do not show up as separate shows at all in my library.

I have verified that all shows are separately named properly so “Doctor Who - S01E01 - Ep Name.mp4” and “Torchwood - S02E05 - Ep Name.mp4” and so on so they arent not duplicated that way. I checked “Details” on the actual files themselves and aside from the file creation dates, the rest are blank.

Anyone know why this might be happening, or how I might fix it?

As an example here is my file structure:

e:\TV\Doctor Who 2005\Season13\Doctor Who 2005 - S13E06.mp4
e:\TV\Torchwood\Season2\Torchwood - S02E04.mp4

Should be Doctor Who (2005)

The brackets are key.

Also as you are using mp4 then embedded metadata could cause mismatches.

In addition to @Xhaka 's recommendations.

Put a space between Season and the season number, and use two digits for the season number:
Season 02 vs Season2.

If you’re using the new Plex TV Series agent and scanner, you can add the TVDB/TMDB IDs to the folder name. That will help Plex distinguish between the shows. See Naming & Organizing Your TV Show Files.

Example: /Torchwood (2006) {tmdb-79511}/Season 02/Torchwood (2006) - s02e04.mp4

And Plex Dance the shows after any renaming/reorganization.

For simple mass renaming, check out PowerRename in Microsoft Power Toys.

It makes it easy to rename an entire directory structure of files. ex: replace 2005 with (2005) or Season2 with Season 02.
