Meta data not showing up

is there a way with TMM to preserve some of the original title while working with plex so that I know for a fact what the original file name was? I just want to be able to know things like hdr and basic info in case I want to upgrade that title. Thanks

Put it in square brackets at end of the file name. Plex will ignore it.

movie_name (year) [all that other stuff].ext

Can do the same for TV shows.

Can put it in the movie/show folder name if desired (but not season folder name).

Also, see the docs about using the IMDB/TMDB ID (movies) or TVDB/TMDB ID (tv shows) in the folder/file name. That pretty much guarantees a match.

Tiny Media Manager (free version) will pull the IMDB IDs and add them to the folder/file name for movies. Not sure about TV shows & TMDB/TVDB IDs (I haven’t tried it yet).

Example: Folder & file name setting in TMM:
${title} (${year}) {imdb-${movie.imdbId}} [${videoFormat}]
/Airplane! (1980) {imdb-tt0080339} [1080p]/Airplane! (1980) {imdb-tt0080339} [1080p].mkv

but what changed with plex? I was always able to have it working correctly before. Ive used it since it came out. it used to be able to get most of the titles without any work. I only started using tmm because I had a huge collection and some rarer movies that plex couldnt figure out. I always changed the folder and never the file and it always worked for over a decade. what changed and why did plex get worse?

do you have a format that preserves the old file names? that still ate them up. I guess it preserved the fact its 2180p. I was trying to keep the release group names obvious torrents lol. omg I just renamed some test files and you wont believe it. still wont show up!!! WTF. sphere wont even show up. how can plex not find sphere. strong text

I do not know if it is possible to sort/preserve any info from the file name.

I see zero reason to preserve anything like w-lilyhammer0103.1080p.

You do not need the original file name for this.

Read the TMM docs (click help in settings → renamer). It can pick out many things - audio/video codecs, hdr, etc.

Plex Dance the movie after renaming/re-organizing. It clears bad info from your Plex Media Server database.

Works fine on my system.

I already did the dance. I deleted my whole library and rebuilt it and this is what it looks like.

I rebuilt it. renamed all the files like you said. nothing. its still not showing any of it really. seems like it got worse actually.

Did you use a VPN at some point in the past?
If so, check if there are any Plex-related entries in your hosts file. If there are any, remove them.

I do use PIA but have used it for like a decade and it never caused issues. not sure how to check on the host file or how that would affect things.

anyone know anything?

Can you restart the server, wait 60 seconds, and then scan the library in question, then upload the logs?
