Meta data not showing up

Server Version#: Version 4.76.1
Player Version#:shield totally updated

I have folders called movies and within are all my files each in a separate folder correctly named using TMM. I have used plex a very long time and normally it picks up the names without having to name it. some movies show up and not sure why. all new movies added to not show up. I have rebuilt the libraries. I have redone all the meta data. it always ends up the same. the libraries are correctly pointing at the right source. Its been like this for months.

I’m confused… what exactly is wrong?
Are the files not added at all or are they simply not getting any metadata?
Do you want Plex to pick up embedded metadata you’ve already stored in the files with TMM?

Sorry but your post isn’t very clear about that…

theres no meta data on most files even though they are named correctly. I just dont know why it cant read the folders and show the meta data

If you want Plex to pick up embedded metadata, make sure to check that option in the library options. Assuming your library is using the Plex Movie agent, make sure ⋮ > Manage Library > Edit... → Advanced > Prefer local metadata is checked/enabled.

If you want Plex to pick up metadata from its online databases… make sure the Plex Media Server has access to the internet. Sometimes there’s issues with weird DNS configurations or VPNs that cause your server not to see the Plex backend in the internet. Sometimes some kind of security app or local firewall can filter/block that kind of communication.

I tried that. still doesnt work. the online data bases dont work either. I have pia vpn but have plex bypassed. turned off pia and am refreshing meta data but I doubt it will work.

If you view your movie library by “Unmatched,” do you have any items listed? If so, are those the items which have no metadata?

this is what it looks like. its just broken as hell

only 70 files are unmatched but all should be as they are named correctly

What is your TV show library naming format? and what directories do you have listed in plex to index?

everything is done using tmm. its all correctly named. I did this years ago to fix the non matching rarer movies. now pretty much every show or movie doesnt show… the directories are like d:/movies or whatever. its all the same across all the drives. c:/complete E:/tv

@ogormask can you please provide actual path examples? Im going to be whatever format you have TMM set to for TV shows isn’t right. For those that are unmatched you can try to refresh the metadata and see if it pulls a match, but until you fix the naming issue you will have problems matching.

One of the key signs to a naming issue is you have a show called Search Party 02 that is caused by non-standard naming.

how is this or any of them named wrong?

Resident Alien (2021)

even if thats wrong which I am absolutely positive is correct how sad of a program plex would be to not figure out what show that is or what movie. I mean come on its the name and the date it came out. plex is broken as hell.

not sure how that fell through the cracks but I fixed both of them but I doubt it will matter. 99% of the rest is correct and doesnt show up right.

Two quick questions/requests:

  1. What is the full path/naming to an episode of Resident Alien?
  2. Grab a screenshot of your TV library’s “Add folders” tab and post it here (not imgur, please, just paste the image in).

G:\TV\Resident Alien (2021)\Season 1

So I just added that to that folder and then it processed it and nothing shows up. I mean this is really really bad. Idk how this is happening.

Sorry, I meant to ask for you to include some actual file names as well.

Resident Alien - S01E01 - Pilot

w-lilyhammer0103.1080p

6.Underground.2019.HDR.2160p.WEBRip.x265-iNTENSO

I thought it only read the folders

The file names are important too.
The “Resident Alien” pilot file seems ok.

I’m not actually sure what those other lines are supposed to mean – if they’re episode file names, I’m not surprised if Plex isn’t matching any of those.

Plex Documentation → Your Media

Review Plex’s naming and organization documents and adjust accordingly.

Plex Dance the show/movie after renaming. This clears incorrect information from the Plex database.

From Naming and Organizing Your TV Show Files:
/TV Shows/ShowName/Season 02/ShowName – s02e17 – Optional_Info.ext

The most important bit in the file name is the appropriate season and episode number notation s02e17 which in this example means Season 2 Episode 17.
