I have folders called movies and within are all my files each in a separate folder correctly named using TMM. I have used plex a very long time and normally it picks up the names without having to name it. some movies show up and not sure why. all new movies added to not show up. I have rebuilt the libraries. I have redone all the meta data. it always ends up the same. the libraries are correctly pointing at the right source. Its been like this for months.
I’m confused… what exactly is wrong?
Are the files not added at all or are they simply not getting any metadata?
Do you want Plex to pick up embedded metadata you’ve already stored in the files with TMM?
Sorry but your post isn’t very clear about that…
If you want Plex to pick up embedded metadata, make sure to check that option in the library options. Assuming your library is using the Plex Movie agent, make sure ⋮ > Manage Library > Edit... → Advanced > Prefer local metadata is checked/enabled.
If you want Plex to pick up metadata from its online databases… make sure the Plex Media Server has access to the internet. Sometimes there’s issues with weird DNS configurations or VPNs that cause your server not to see the Plex backend in the internet. Sometimes some kind of security app or local firewall can filter/block that kind of communication.
I tried that. still doesnt work. the online data bases dont work either. I have pia vpn but have plex bypassed. turned off pia and am refreshing meta data but I doubt it will work.
everything is done using tmm. its all correctly named. I did this years ago to fix the non matching rarer movies. now pretty much every show or movie doesnt show… the directories are like d:/movies or whatever. its all the same across all the drives. c:/complete E:/tv
@ogormask can you please provide actual path examples? Im going to be whatever format you have TMM set to for TV shows isn’t right. For those that are unmatched you can try to refresh the metadata and see if it pulls a match, but until you fix the naming issue you will have problems matching.
even if thats wrong which I am absolutely positive is correct how sad of a program plex would be to not figure out what show that is or what movie. I mean come on its the name and the date it came out. plex is broken as hell.
The file names are important too.
The “Resident Alien” pilot file seems ok.
I’m not actually sure what those other lines are supposed to mean – if they’re episode file names, I’m not surprised if Plex isn’t matching any of those.
