Today we’re happy to announce a long awaited change to our mobile apps: the ability to edit your Personal Media metadata!
With the latest iOS or Android app, 2026.4.0, you can now find the following options by opening the … menu or long pressing a personal media title and selecting the “Manage” option. They should provide the same capabilities available when editing your metadata via the Plex web client:
-
Edit the metadata for any Movie, Show, Season, Episode, Playlists and Collections
-
Change artwork: Posters, Backgrounds, Title Logos
-
Edit Tags and Labels
-
Refresh metadata
-
Match / Fix Match / Unmatch
-
Analyze
-
View File Info
-
Delete
A future release will support editing metadata for Playlists and Collections [implemented].
We’re also working on improving Playlists on our mobile apps to support adding, removing, and reordering items.
Updated Approach for Server Management, Music, & Photos
Last year we announced we were working on a dedicated server management app. After careful consideration of the user experience and seeing the benefits of our new unified codebase, we’ve decided on a different approach. Rather than creating a completely separate app for server management, we’re going to build those features into the main Plex app instead. This will allow you to immediately see your changes instead of jumping back and forth between different apps and provide a more seamless user experience.
Today’s release of metadata editing is just the first in a series of updates that will eventually see all of the server and library management options, currently only available in the web app, available on mobile. Where it makes sense, some options will be added to TV apps as well (ex: changing artwork, viewing file info).
We’ll be following the same plan for Plex Photos in the future. Bringing that functionality back into the main Plex app will allow us to support some of the basic features like search that are missing today and ship updates more quickly. After that happens the Plex Photos app will be retired.
You’ll also see the Plex mobile app restore support for Music libraries over time as well, keeping all of your personal media in one place. One key difference here: Plexamp isn’t going away. Plexamp will continue to offer the best experience for Music libraries, including many advanced features it supports today that won’t be offered in the main app.
We’re excited to share these updates today and continue working towards improving the experience for everyone using Plex Media Server.
