Metadata for home movies completely broken

I’ve been struggling w/ getting the data correct for a while and Plex just seems to lose it’s mind.

For example, I import a bunc of videos into a home movies library w/ a folder name of something like “2011_car_vids” with all the files in the folder prefixed with “2011_car_trip_XXX” where XXX is just a sequential number from 0001 to like 0470 or whatever.

When I import the library, the date for every file is listed as 2014 rather than 2011 and the titles are completely non-nonsensical. I’m getting the same title, simply “00034” for like 20 of the videos. Where the heck is Plex getting this info from?? It can’t even get the date right?? How can I have duplicates of files when the names in the folder are all unique?

See Media Preparation guidelines.

The Naming Home Series Media might be a good fit.

Update on this. Plex looks to use the date created attribute to assign the date to the file which for whatever reason ( files being moved around is my guess ) the created date was years later than the actual date so Plex was assigning the video clips to the wrong year. The work-around for me was to download a bulk file attribute changer and set the correct created date for my videos.
