Metadata for TV Documentaries Series/ Stand alone Documentaries

I’ve been again attempting to add some Documentaries that I’ve loved and want to share. Editing the metadata for files as been difficult at best and because there seems to be so many possible ways of doing this I wondered if I could quickly describe what I’ve done and see if this is the way :wink:

Here are some filenames (mp4) that I’m using:

TV Documentaries library:

<< None of these above individual shows, show up at all - not sure why?

At first glance, is the syntax correct for these shows? I’ve tried to follow *[Naming and Organizing Your TV Show Files | Plex Support] as some parts seemed relevant.

Any of you nice people attempting to add shows like this and have more effective ways of doing this? I could REALLY do with some solid pointers as I feel most of the time I’m throwing files into the air and seeing what then sticks correctly.

What software are you all using to change the metadata on your movie files? (I’m using a Mac)

i have two documentaries libraries, one for tv shows and one for movies - they require different agents.

As @power mentioned above, some documentaries are classified as TV Shows and some as Movies - you’ll have to place them in an appropriate library to match.

Equinox and Horizon are TV Shows, the others in your list are movies.

Also I noticed you have tvdb ids on all your episodes, this isn’t something that is supported. Only the show folder itself can have an tvdb/tmdb/imdb id and having ids for each episode may actually be causing issues.

Oh that’s brilliant fellas, thank you for your time to respond and I’ll amend and see how that effects the results.

Could I just ask what is advised to use to change the metadata from certain movie/tv show files? I ask this as some of the files I’ve found already contain info which appears as episode names which are completely wrong :expressionless: If I knew how to amend this I’d be a happier chappie :slight_smile:

if it’s in the files themselves, I would use some sort of advanced file editor and just clear it completely. I had to do something like this when i had files with bad modified dates.
