Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171

Hello , i’m having issues obtaining tvdb metadata for the show prison break
from what i understand the tvdb entry got vandalised and recreated.

I have tried removing the show from my library and performing a clean up and then emptying trash
after which i attempted to readd the tv series still to no avail am i able to obtain the info from media agent…

has anyone else experienced this problem or have s fix/solution.

here is the xml for a episode

Thank you for your time and effort in advance.

Are you following the Plex naming rules exactly? Can you post your folder name / structure and your filenames for each season?

Thanks for your prompt reply

its only for this tv series all other work fine

so far i have been manually adding all the tv episode descriptions.

I didn’t ask for that.

Please note from my original response:

  1. are you following the folder and file name rules per the document?
  2. please share you FOLDER and FILENAMES of the actual video files

Something like:

Prison Break (2005)
----Season 01
--------Prison Break (2005) S01EP01.mkv
--------Prison Break (2005) S01EP02.mkv
--------Prison Break (2005) S01EP03.mkv

----Season 02
--------Prison Break (2005) S02EP01.mkv
--------Prison Break (2005) S02EP02.mkv
--------Prison Break (2005) S02EP03.mkv

etc.

I thought i would be helping by providing the xml

as requested here is the path for the first file in the series

E:\TV Series\Prison Break (2005)\Prison Break (2005) Season 1\Prison Break (2005) S01E01 Pilot.mp4

This is probably due to embedded metadata in the mp4 files

I would recommend this instead per the documentation:

E:\TV Series\Prison Break (2005)\Season 01\Prison Break (2005) - S01E01 - Pilot.mp4

(drop the “Prison Break (2005)” from the tv show season folders) and makes sure you don’t have any embedded info in the mp4 files as that will mess things up.

ok will give it a go thank you for the info

I prefer mkv files to mp4 files, so if you have a choice and all your clients don’t need transcoding with mkv. It should be the first and best choice.

i have over 10 thousand files all in mp4 so would take a lot of work to covert them.

thanks for the tip i will start to use mkv from here on

I would never recommend changing historical files but definite would suggest all future collection additions.
Three pieces of software that will assist with these files going forward

MakeMKV
MKVToolNix
HandBrake

There many discussions with great instruction and fixes to optimize your files

You don’t have to convert them - Move Local Media Assets to the bottom of the stack of active agents under ALL tabs in Shows and Movies:

Red: where it was
Green: where it goes
Plex will no longer give tip-top priority to embedded Title Fields.

…and DO follow the naming guide - precisely - for best results.

@JuiceWSA Thanks you for the info, I have mad the suggested changes

@SE56 Thanks for providing the product info

Re the naming guides I have Sonarr downloading the episodes and filling them and then Plex indexes them

Any lingering issues, can probably be corrected with “precise” naming and structuring, Refresh Metadata, and perhaps The Plex Dance for stubborn mules:

Yep I have done the Plex Dance many times to fix issues

will give it a go as soon as i’m able to…

Thank you to all for the valuable assistance thus far

Then tell Sonarr to name them “precisely” - and it can be made to do so.

Same problem, this was after the API update from TVDB.

To get the metadata for Prison Break working you need to manually search within the Fix Match option. Searching for the TVDB series id of Prison Break (360115) seems to do the trick.
After that you can select Prison Break from the selection menu.

Its weird, but when searching for ‘Prison Break’ within the TVDB API it gives no results. Only with the ID provided.

I just did a test - and found the same thing you did.

Then I went to TVDB and found a ‘boat-load’ of Prison Breaks:
https://thetvdb.com/search?query=prison%20break
Some of them Movies? The meter sensitive enough to measure my confidence in TVDB and Movies hasn’t been invented yet.

Then I removed the (2005) from my file names and structures - squat all happened. Apparently Plex doesn’t ‘default’ to the latest ‘Version’ for this item - it defaults to a Black Hole.

The ID# works.

yes i tried everything and the only way i could get a result was to search with the tvdb show id as per @Sanderluc 's suggestion. all seem to be fine now using that method for that show only.

#ddolbel I had exactly the same problem with the same series “Prison Break”, in my case in .mkv format. And I solved it with the “FIX MATCH” option and there in “SEARCH OPTION” I changed TheTDBV for Movie Data Base and it worked perfectly [quote=“ddolbel, post:1, topic:528635, full:true”]
