When adding movies, Plex either ignores or takes into consideration year and resolution tags. I tag movies e.g. “Terminator 2 Judgment Day (1991) (Extended Director’s Cut) (1080p)” and Plex correctly matches this to “Terminator 2: Judgment Day.” As it should.
But I tag foreign shows e.g. “My Hero Academia (Dual audio)” and Plex doesn’t know how to handle that. It thinks “Dual audio” is part of the title.
If outright ignoring text in parenthesis is a bridge too far, could Plex, upon being able to match a new library entry, then ignore the text in parenthesis and see if it finds anything that way? Because all but one time, I was able to find the show by simply removing the language tag from the search criteria. The one exception was Ghost Stories, which would only come up if I entered the Japanese translation of the name. Then “Ghost Stories (2000)” came up (it wouldn’t actually come up in a search for “Ghost Stories.” Note that the anime in question is the first DuckDuckGo result for a “Ghost Stories” search. (It’s an anime that was licensed for an English dub before it was released in Japan, and it did so poorly in Japan that the English dubbing cast infamously ad-libbed the entire thing, which made it a cult classic among anime fans. Worth noting that it’s very politically incorrect. But still somewhat popular among anime fans, and one of the few anime series known to have a far superior English dub vs the Japanese dub.)
Also note, the fix match/match feature is much more robust than in years past! I’m on my third installation of Plex (both times before, completely uninstalled) and managing my library is a lot easier this time around. Part of that is due to experience with the software, but the software has improved and I wanted to acknowledge that. So kudos and thank you to the team!
