Metadata Not Automatically Updating

Server Version#: 1.32.7.7621

Recently I did a reset of my Windows PC and reinstalled PMS on it. Before I did this, when a tv show would get updated metadata (ex. the TBA title is changed), it would update overnight or within a day. Now, it isn’t happening at all. I let a show sit for a few days to see if it was a delay in info trickling down but that didn’t change anything. I also made sure the agents were ordered properly and did a metadata refresh on the whole library.

Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated!

Make sure scheduled tasks are enabled

I have all of the scheduled tasks enabled. I know it says every 3 days and I made sure to wait for that period before posting. I just don’t understand why it went from daily changing to not at all.

What is an example of this and can you post your server logs ?

A few examples I looked at were the newest episodes of Loki, Invincible, and Upload.

What log files do you need? The ones I download from the web UI all have today’s date in them and nothing before, and there are a handful of older ones that don’t seem to have any relevant info.

I ask because my downloaded .zip is too large to upload (max size is 8MB and its like 9.3MB)

Hi all, just seeing if there’s any update to my current issue.

I’m going to use the newest episode of Eminence in Shadow which released today (11/15). The episode has a title but no description, so we are looking to see that update automatically in the next few days.

I would clear your log folder (I suspect you have something that should have been deleted that wasnt) your zip should be around 5MB. Once you clear your logs, recreate the issue and upload a clean set of logs.

I’m not sure how to recreate it per se, since the issue is a lack of action. It’s not like Plex is doing something incorrectly, it’s not doing anything.

I will clear my folder for logs and upload the new zip tomorrow morning once tonight’s scheduled tasks run, maybe we will see something.

Ok, I’ve added my logs after clearing that folder yesterday and letting things happen overnight. Let me know what you guys find!

FYI Sword Art Online (2012) [tvdb-259640] is not how it should be named, Sword Art Online (2012) {tvdb-259640} square brackets are used to ignore the contents the other brackets are used for identifiers. I am seeing a number of matches for that show in the logs without more specifics its hard to say exactly what is going on, which is why I asked for a specific filename/location previously.

Ah that must be an old naming scheme I used. I’ll go update that!

Interesting that SAO is getting hits, no one on my server is or has watched that recently.

In regards to a specific one to look at, Eminence in Shadow, The (2022) [tvdb-407520] is the example I was using with those logs uploaded. I have a better use case today with the newest episode of Invincible releasing with a TBA title today, so tomorrow I’ll update with new logs and the folder name for that.

I was seeing matching/detections for Eminence in Shadow, sorry if that wasnt clear. The TBD might just be metadata lag. That means it IS matching, but is probably using stale information it can take anywhere from 48-96 hours from when metadata is changed on sites the tvdb or tmdb to appear in Plex.

Oh gotcha, thanks for clarifying. I’ll wait a few days then and update everyone on what happens, I believe 96 hours from when that episode released is sometime Saturday, so I’ll post logs on Sunday as well as an update!

Ok, welcome back everyone lol

So yesterday was the 96 hour mark for that new episode of Eminence in Shadow to get updated metadata, and should have happened overnight.

It did not happen overnight.

I’ve posted my logs. Let me know what you guys find, and if I can clarify in any way what to look for!

Not sure if you’ve mentioned this already, but are you able to update manually?

I am yes, if I manually refresh the metadata at any level (library, series, and episode), all of the info gets pulled down and is correct. The issue is purely with the auto-refreshing for metadata.

Gotcha. Reason I asked is that not too long ago I had a similar issue where Plex would not refresh anything anymore, manually or overnight. I had to start running PMS as admin to get everything going again. Been OK since, refreshing 100 movies and shows every scheduled cycle, and seasons sporadically.

Interesting. I’ll reboot PMS as admin and see what happens this time around, just to be sure. Thanks for the advice!

Unfortunately it doesn’t seem running as admin fixed the issue. Is there any indication from the logs I posted yesterday of what’s going on?

Ok, so almost a week later that metadata for the episode finally refreshed. I definitely feel that is longer than it should be, but it’s possibly due to not running as admin, so the three day marker came and went a few times before that. I have other episodes I’m monitoring, and will keep everyone updated.
