Metadata not being downloaded and also not recognizing local subtitle files

Could someone help me to understand why Plex is not downloading metadata properly anymore?
When it downloads, it is only the cover, but the movie tags don’t come as well. Open subtitles agent also doesn’t work anymore.
It also doesn’t recognize my local subtitle files (although they have exactly the same file movie name) - I also tried setting ‘Local Media Assets’ agent as the first, second and third option.
This started to happen like 2 months ago.
The logs are attached.

Many thanks!

Did you change the ‘Agent’ setting in the properties of your library?
I see in the logs that Plex fetches the metadata in the language xx, which of course will not yield any metadata at all.
Check the language setting of the library.

Hello OttoKerner, thanks for you help!
I didn’t change the language set for the libraries, the only language changed was related to OpenSubtitles agent.
But in any case, I uninstalled Plex and deleted all files in Local folder.
Then I created the libraries again, both server and libraries in English. But it still doesn’t download the metadata. Could you please check the new logs? I tried to found the part where you saw the language xx, but couldn’t.
Many thanks!

The affected media are already ‘matched’ in the database with that nonsensical ‘language’ selection attached to them.
You must perform the Plex Dance to get some meaningful logs.

[disregard the above]
You re-created your libraries, so the Plex Dance is unnecessary.

Instead, do the following:
Go to

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheTVDB

In there, grab the line ‘Local Media Assets’ with your mouse and drag it downwards, so it ends up being at the bottom of the stack of active agents.
Repeat the same under

  • Settings - Server - Agents - Shows - TheMovieDatabase
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - Plex Movie
  • Settings - Server - Agents - Movies - TheMovieDatabase

Then Refresh Metadata on one of the movies.

Are you downloading directly into your Plex movie folders?

You should never do that. A partially downloaded movie will get misrecognised by Plex.

Always download to a place which is not ‘seen’ by Plex. Only after the download is finished and you have verified it, move it into your Plex movie folder.

Hi OttoKerner, I changed the agent settings, as you mentioned, and also performed a Plex Dance. But it doesn’t seem to be working :frowning:

Got it. I will stop doing that from now on.
Many thanks!

Clear out the agent cache folders:

Are you using an anti-virus software? Tell it to stay out of the Plex data folder.

de-install Plex server
download a fresh copy of the installation .exe (using a different browser)
install it

Done. And it didn’t work. Same result.

Please disable ‘verbose’ logging. It makes error diagnosis not easier.

Hello, this time I did a clean windows install, and installed Plex again.
Same issue is happening.
Could someone help me?

Why do you have an additional subfolder per episode?
This will not work. That is the issue with the subtitles.

Have you ever started Plex Server ‘As Administrator’? If you did, then now certain files and folders in your Plex data folder are either inaccessible or write-protected.

Side note: You only have a wireless connection on your plex server. That is not recommended and can cause additional issues.

Just FYI: I installed a VM with Windows 7, and noticed that Plex was downloading metadata properly with the same files and folders I was trying in my Windows 10.
Then checking other forums, I noticed some people complaining about the same issue, and it was fixed by disabling IPv6.
I did it, and now is working perfectly.
So it is an issue in Plex Server for W10.
Thanks for your help.
