Hey guys, this has been an occasional repeat issue for me over the past several years, and I can’t figure out how or why it’s happening, but every few weeks or so, my Plex library metadata disappears from my files. Not the poster art, or actual files, just the custom “sorting title”, “title”, or other custom metadata that I painstakingly went through and renamed to keep sequels together.
For example, all the Star Wars movies, I’d like to keep sorted by episode, but since they use roman numerals, they don’t alphabetically sort. So the quick and easy solution is to call The Phantom Menace “Star Wars 1” in the “sorting title” field, and so forth. Easy peasy.
However today when I tried to add some more movies to my collection, I noticed that all of the custom sorting information I’d put in several months ago, had disappeared, and all of my films were back to their default sorting. This is very frustrating, and keeps happening over and over, every few weeks or months. I’ll spend a couple hours sorting all my films and in a few weeks, it’s all gone.
I think the solution is to backup the metadata XML database files to OneDrive possibly, so that if this ever happens again, I’ll just replace my library data with the latest OneDrive copies, and voila, all my work has been restored. But I can’t find the file(s) where this data is stored.
