Metadata "personal" videos and albumings

Server Version#: 1.41.2.9200-c6bbc1b53
Hey all, I’m not trying to do movies at all.
I work at a skydiving place. we shoot tandem video.
i’m looking for a cool way to provide a local access to the media for our customers.

I’ve tried scripts to generate metadata, different methods of folder structure that work with TV or movies, it doesn’t ever quite seem to get personal media right.

i wrote a python script to take media, subfolder it, and generate metadata files, but man, nothing seems to work.

each person folder has 2 videos in it.
goal is to have the “First Name Last Name” as the “title of the movie”
then their pictures in that folder are the movie cover and fanart for them when they choose themselves to watch the videos.

can anyone help. what am i doing wrong, or is this really geared for TV and i’m using the wrong tool?

The goal is to be able to give that media server feel. I have AI that detects voice in interview video, then generates metadata of the videographer and the passenger.

in the same way that movies have actors, directors, etc, the metadata for the skydives could include who is in the jump. person A can find his videos and there’s a ‘cast’ of whos in the video from the metadata.

I know plex can do it, i just don’t know how to tell it what i want it to do.
Thanks so much

I guess I don’t understand exactly how the client is supposed to view the videos. Are you inviting clients to a Plex server, so they can use a Plex client at home to watch the videos that you are hosting? That would sort of work, but it’s not a great application of Plex if for no other reason than the limit of 100 invitees.

If you are giving your clients video files then Plex isn’t going to be helpful at all in that effort.

Can you write out the desired client use case, in detail?

we have some tvs setup around that have the plex app on them.
In the bar, or around the property while they’re here.

sorry, i’ll elaborate a bit.
putting this here as a quick note while i update

we’re not a small operation. we’re the biggest one there is, actually but that’s besides the point.
We have a large property with a bar, multiple hangout areas, etc.
The idea is, while they’re here they have a television dedicated to playing the plex app. They search for their name, or we just have a loop playlist playing.

We also have the fun jumpers that have media of cool skydives to share around in other places.
“Joe Thomas” drops his media in his folder, then on one of the tvs, can find “joe thomas” see his videos, and with metadata creates the banners, etc for his “movie title” or “tv show and seasons”

i’ll update the main post, too

Please keep in mind that Plex‘s terms of service are focusing on a personal / non-commercial use. If you’re using it for your business, you should anyway reach out to them for a corresponding license agreement (not sure they do anything beyond the personal licensing at the moment).
