Metadata problem (again)!

So, I’m not sure if this is a TVDB problem or a Plex problem. My metadata has not been showing up correctly in Plex for about a week now.
I’m on a synology box, but I don’t think this matters.
The shows were previously matched (one of them) and the other was a new one.
It normally automatically matches, (but no metadata populates). but even manually matching , selecting the result when found and saving it, it acts like it’s downloading, but it never shows up.
I’ve read the older forums about the ‘plex dance’, but I think a bit has changed since the 1.x release.
I’ve deleted the thetvdb plugin folder, removed the tv show and updated library, rebooted, etc. no luck.
What can I do?
Please help.

Andy,
thank you so much for sharing. I actually copied the folders before deleting them (the tvdb db one), so nbd. I put it back.
It appears to have a struggle matching Pokemon at the present time. I’ve ensured all of my info is the same as what you’ve done, but no luck

haha, sorry, lazy typing. I copied out the entire plugin directory before removing them and when I removed them, plex didn’t work, so I put it back. and nbd meant no big deal
It’s matched pretty obscure anime shows before. Actually, I’ve never had a problem ever finding a match for any TV show I have (Plex is managing almost 300 TV shows for me).
When I originally posted, it couldn’t match anything (and I attributed that to a problem with TVDB possibly banning for too many requests (or something, idk) because after several remove & re-add’s and about 24 hours, it started to work for my other TV shows, but not pokemon.

I saw a few posts about issues with matching for pokemon. (so it might be worth searching for and checking those)

and one of the fixes noted in the 1.0.2 changelog was
(Metadata) Issues fetching metadata for Pokémon TV series. (#4966)

As you don’t mention which version of Plex you are running, just a thought, make sure you are running the latest version.

I’m already patched up. The problem occured prior to the update, and continued afterward. I saw that update (and installed).

I scoured those logs too. Turned on both levels of logging, and among all the annoying repetative items, I saw the HTTP GET’s from TVDB, but they were always either base64 or some other kind of encoding, so reading them is not exactly straightforward.

I downgraded to 1.0.0 and everything is matching perfectly for me now! The update in 1.0.1 made matching FUBAR.

really?? how would you even downgrade without losing everything?

Under Windows you simply remove Plex in the standard way and answer no to questions like “remove all traces?” if they happen and then reinstall whatever version you want. I would think similar functions work for other operating systems.

I have done that several times over the years and I have never had a problem.

The problem now is that Plex does not think there is anything wrong with the 1.0.x versions so they have removed access to earlier versions. On most systems there is a directory called “Updates” in the Plex directory or the user directory Plex’s data is stored in that contains many, if not most, of the latest versions Plex has downloaded.

Edit: Ver 1.0.2.2413 under Windows 10 is working fine for me and the matching has given me no problem at all.

interesting. still can’t do anything wrt my installation being a NAS. Perhaps their NEXT update will fix it?
