So basically I was trying to transfer my Plex library over to a new PC but ran into some issues which is a story for another time. Anyway, I went to set it back up on my old PC exactly how it was. I did everything exactly like I should have but it’s not pulling metadata and posters for some of my TV shows. Say out of 50 about a dozen are perfectly fine and I can’t figure out why. It pulls through the shows and season fine but that’s it. I just don’t know why some are ok and the majority aren’t. Even stranger, my library of over 1000 movies are all completely fine. Not one issue for any of them. I searched around and couldn’t find anyone with this exact problem. Any help would greatly be appreciated. Please feel free to let me know if I need to provide any additional information.
TheTVDb new API and whatever they are doing has been causing alot of problem with alot of folks.
I too been having the same issue lately. I think 3 series out of 20 matched automatically. The rest I had to do a “match”.
BTW: If you don’t already know that thetvdb is going through some big changes.
An excerpt from an email I received.
Hello,
There are some big changes coming for TheTVDB that will affect both developers and our end users, most notably our brand new API (“v4”). With the launch of this new API fast approaching, we wanted to give an overview of all of these changes.
Also within the email this…
A note for Plex users: TheTVDB is in ongoing active discussions with Plex. Please stay tuned for more information if you are an end user of Plex.
I think it’s gonna be a bit rocky with thetvdb for a while til all upgrades and discussions are complete.
Is there any way I can use my old Plexappdata on this or my new PC? That is just the name of the folder that I had to move at one time awhile ago to free up space on my smaller OS drive. I just can’t find where I would need to put it but it should have all the information from when I tried to start the transfer. I can’t find a folder with that same name. Not sure if that would be a possibility but something I just thought of. Either way, nice to know it’s not just me. Thanks for the reply.
It’s really not about plexdata/folders/metadata. You could move all in the exact AND correct spot and you will still have issues because plex hasen’t matched the items. At least, this is what I think is likely your case.
I have recently moved my Plex container from CentOS to Ubuntu. I backed up all metadata onto a separate drive to save myself the hassle of rescanning everything (1000s of movies, music, tvshows, photos, etc). Reinstall went fine, but scanning and importing went wonky. Noting new was showing up even after rsyncs and reloads. I decided to wipe out all meta and start fresh.
As noted by OP, movies went perfectly.
TV shows… not so much. Many missing, for probably the reasons mentioned with TVDB. I constantly had the issue that needed a manual match, and when I did that… the search options returned inaccurate listings (no matter how simple I made the title with the correct year). The solution I found that worked consistently, was to open a browser and got to theTVDB site and search for the problem show. Then copy the series ID located on the page and paste it next to the title search (mandelorian 361753). It would then display the correct series to select.
Music has been a hot mess. Had to switch to LastFM scanner to even scan anything and it keeps crapping out;… soo…
meh.
Hope this helps someone until all parties get in sync again
