Metadata won't update for TV shows.

I may not have been clear… My apologies.

After installing 1.13.2.5154, Refresh all Metadata.
If you still have an issue, which you should not, Scan, empty trash, clean bundles, and kick it one more time.
To date, there have been no reports of any inability to get all poster data

Also, If the TV library was set to TMDB as part of the temporary workaround please put it back to TheTVDB where it rightfully should be

If it still does it after doing what ChuckPA said above, click on the little “edit” icon shaped like a pencil and select the cover art / poster that you want for the series. Takes all of like 2 seconds to fix, and will carry forward with any future episodes you add.

I tried the steps listed above and it did not work. I then tried the “Plex Dance” and I still get the same result. Plex is still pulling the lowest rated posters for all shows that have multiple posters on thetvdb. I am getting posters, just not the correct ones. Is it possible that the new API has a different ways of asking for the highest rated one?

lowest ‘rated’? Do you mean the incorrect posters?

That has not been my experience so far. I especially notice it with shows that come out daily, like The Daily Show. I will fix the poster art to the correct one, watch the episode, delete the episode, the next day add the latest episode and Plex pulls down the old/low rated artwork with Jon Stewart again. It only sticks if you keep old episodes, which I do not.

Then it must be something in TheTVDB API on their end. I would investigate / ask there.

All we did was update the URL to contact to retrieve the data. It was a 1-line change.
It specifically looks to see if it is in your cache first. If not, then it reaches out to TheTVDB for the image. No rocket science here.

Yes. I have attached an image of what Plex is pulling

And what thetvdb has as the top rated poster that was pulling before all of the changes.

Can you please accept this is out of our hands?

They made the API change. We have to use what we are given. Whatever worked before the API changed is beyond our reach now. Only the currently implemented TVDB API is valid.

I did some poking around and there seems to be a specific argument in their new 2.0 API that you have to ask for the highest rated poster, where it may have been automatic before. This is all a little above my head, but here is where I found that info. https://api.thetvdb.com/swagger#!/Series/get_series_id_images_query

To explain a bit more, what he’s saying that currently there are 4 posters on TVDB from Diners, Drive-ins and Dives:

https://www.thetvdb.com/series/diners-drive-ins-and-dives/artwork/poster

The default Plex behavior has been to pull the poster from TVDB with the highest star rating, which is the first one listed on that page, but instead Plex is pulling the poster with the lowest star rating, which is the last one on that page.

For what it’s worth, I tested this myself by creating a fake Diners, Drive-ins and Dives folder/file/etc and it pulled the “wrong” poster for me as well, the same one @changelin got:

I choose all my posters by hand anyway, so this isn’t really a big deal for me personally, but I thought I would try and clarify with a reproducible example.

I’ll sit down with the python guys and see what they say. If they’re already including the parameter as you say and we’re getting what we’re getting then that’s it.

FWIW: Python is a PITA  lol

One more headache with all this to let you know about that i dont think has come up yet but i just realized, the new TVDB website doesnt list the alternate orders for things anymore. As far as i can tell the data is still there, because i changed a new series i added from broadcast order to dvd order in the advanced options and it still worked, but for another one both the broadcast order and dvd order didnt exactly match my files, but theres no way to actually view that data anymore to correct things on my end.

Again, not your guys fault or anything, just thought id give you a heads up on another feature thats been degraded by the TVDB overhaul.

I just added the brand new episodes of Marlon https://www.thetvdb.com/series/marlon and it has a foreign language poster. It seems that something is not working correctly.

It is now several months after this thread died, and I still have this issue. The files were matched before on a previous install, but i started fresh and moved my metadata directory to another hard drive. I never had issues matching any of the problem tv shows until I did this. I have 81 shows and 14 of which download show/cast info and a couple episodes each and no posters. I have done the Plex Dance, deleting the cache, the files and structure follow the guidelines (obviously they worked before I changed the directory for plex’s metadata), and still no dice.

I have manually rematched the shows and done a refresh of the metadata, and it just won’t comply. Just the blank posters and hardly any matches. It has been in this state for at least a week now and no improvements. Are there any other steps I can take to get the images to refresh? I refuse to do it manually because it used to do this fine.
