Server Version#: 1.20.0.3181
Player Version#: 8.4.2.19372
Magically today, my MiBox S stopped playing AAC audio, but ONLY in Plex. It worked earlier today, but stopped around dinner time. I tried Amazon, NetFlix etc, all work fine. It is ONLY in Plex.
No settings were changed (by me) and I have rebooted it twice as well as cleared the cache. It DOES play audio as long as it’s NOT AAC. It plays E-AC3, AC3 etc, but any video I play that has AAC audio whether it’s stereo or surround, has no audio.
If it matters, my Shield…also running Android…still works fine even with the exact same version of Plex.
Did a new version get released that somehow is not compatible with MiBox S?
Same with one of my family members.
Just out of the blue yesterday it stopped working?
Actually happened two days ago, the only way they can get audio now is if they transcode.
Any audio tracks at all or just AAC audio?
Not sure family members are older. So it’s hard to troubleshoot with them. But it’s all live TV channels and movies.
Locally stored movies or streaming over the internet movies like NetFlix or from a remote Plex server?
From Plex server remotely. My other Mi boxes are fine
What player version are the working ones running?
Mi box is still on 8.0, did not update to 9
I honestly think it’s the mibox.
It’s possible, but why all of a sudden and why only with movie streams? The navigation beeps play when navigating in Plex and if I go to a show I get audio from the metadata where it plays a clip of the theme music.
It’s getting worse. I am starting to think it’s perhaps a bad MiBox S…
I think that’s the cause of theirs as well. I tried to walk them through a hard reset but they couldn’t figure it out. I’m probably just going to go buy them a Roku.
I had a Roku ultra already that I just swapped into that room, but overall, I prefer the Android box because it does things like utilizes the bluetooth keyboard in my Harmony Hub remote (I don’t know of any non-Android players that can do that) and it matches the interface on my Shield. The Ultra is a capable player though.
Oh yes I agree with you. I prefer the Nvidia Shield any day. I have a 2015 and 17. I did just try the Apple TV 4K and it works really well with Plex live TV. but I’m an Android user at heart. So I just ordered the 2019 Shield.

The pro or the tube?
I have been tempted and even saw the 2019 pro for $180 not long ago. It’s just hard for me to justify buying another one, when I already have a 2017 Pro and so many other streaming devices in this house. lol
I am tempted to buy a Vero 4K though because it doesn’t something Plex will never natively do: Play 3D-MVC. Basically I use a LibreELEC Pi3B+ with the Plex add on to watch 3D-MVC and the Shield for everything else. I despise Kodi, but again…it’s able to do something that Plex won’t and according to Plex, never will be able to do: play real 3D.

I ordered the tube and the pro. I’ve been testing the pro and it’s working perfect. I’m going to try the tube in the next day or two.
