Migrating from DSM6 to DSM7.1 - Lost all Plex settings/libraries

Server Version#: 1.25.9.5721
Player Version#: Web 4.76.1

Hi. I have avoided upgrading from DSM6 to DSM7 on my DS216+ii until now. It has gone badly.

I followed the Plex migration steps very carefully. Before upgrading to DSM7, I uninstalled PMS (and kept settings, if given the option (I cannot recall)).

The only step that differed from the provided instructions was that I did not receive the expected failure of the initial Plex install on DSM7. I received an “Installation Successful” message. However, I still needed to give ‘PlexMediaShare’ full control of the Plex folder. I did so and then reinstalled Plex again (PlexMediaServer-1.25.9.5721-965587f64-x86_64_DSM7.spk)

I am able to access the Plex server on DSM7.1, but it appears as though the server is brand new and has not retained any of my previous PMS settings or libraries. I had to claim the server as if it was brand new.

If I understand it correctly, it appears as if my previous settings (in the ‘Plex’ folder, I think) did not migrate (to the new ‘PlexMediaServer’ folder, I think).

Any help to fix this will be greatly appreciated. I have seen suggested instructions in the “My Plex is lost! Now what?” section of PLEX migration with DSM 7, but I have not yet tried to follow them and will await for instruction here.

Thank you very much for your support.

UPDATE: I am following the instructions provided in this thread (I bungled my DSM7 migration. How do I get my metadata back? - #8 by ChuckPa) and am reinstalling. It now looks like the migration is in progress. It is still showing “Installing”, but I see Migration.log in the Plex shared folder, and I don’t think that was there on the first attempt. I will follow up once the process is complete.

I’m glad you found the official documentation.

With it in “Installing”, don’t interrupt it. Allow it to continue as long as needed.
It will complete and your server will be moved intact.

Thanks. The migration completed successfully and I am back in the Plex game. There is one error in the Migration.log.

Notice that error ?

It means you have one missing thumbnail photo in your TV library.

If you look further down, the error did not recur when it was converting the symbolic links. This means it was able to work its way thought it.

Somewhere in your library, one of your episodes is missing its metadata.

When you find it, you can refresh that individual series
-or-
you can refresh the whole library section now

Your choice.

I do recommend you make certain the butler functions and “Library” functions are set to automatically empty trash + the other cleaning/refreshing actions to avoid this in the future.
