Migrating Plex Library and Settings When Upgrading from DS218j to DS718+

Hi,

My trusty DS218j is having trouble with my 4 kids accessing it at the same time. I’ve decided to “bite the bullet” and buy the DS718+ with an extra 4Gb of RAM. My problem is I’ve just spent the last few weeks sorting out my library getting it exactly how I want it. Synology inform me that they don’t support migration of the “J” series to the “+” series. They suggested asking Plex as they don’t support 3rd party software either…not real helpful. I want to know if there’s a way I can simply take the hard drives from my DS218j and put them into the 718+ and my Plex server remain unchanged?

Hey Trumpy81,

I actually did one better, I went for the DS718+ with the 517 expansion. Thought I’d future proof myself by having 6 10TB HDD’s so I can RAID. I can’t see my Plex server out growing that in a hurry.

Thanks so much for the advice, Synology pretty much told me I couldn’t do it.
