Minor weirdity when playing a randomized playlist

Server Version#: 1.18.7.2438
Player Version#: 7.29.0.15665 (nVidia Shield)

I created a few playlists using this tip. It works great, but I noticed an odd behavior. Doesn’t cause any real problem, just a little surprising.

When I open the playlist on the Shield and click Play, it always plays a different track than the one it displays.

For example, I click ‘Play’ and it shows:

But it plays a completely different track (still from the playlist, but not the one it shows).

It corrects itself after the first track. Every track afterward is correct.

This does not occur if I click ‘Shuffle.’ It does not occur in Plex Web. It does not occur in playlists not created according to the tip I linked.

Are you opening the playlist then playing?

If so that doesn’t work as expected .

The playlist refreshes on each load (unless the app caches it).

So when you view the playlist, it will be a different set of tracks (depending on how varied the playlist is to begin with) than what the player will load.

I usually use the context menu to start playing.

Edit: I see what you are saying, if you trigger playback via a song from the list, it doesn’t play that specific song, nor any other song from the initial displayed tracks.

The resulting player queue will be different than the track list displayed in the playlist.

Just like if you back out of the playlist, then go back in, it will be different each time.

See above for why.

There is no context menu on the Shield app. The only way to start the playlist is to open it and then hit Play or Shuffle.

But yeah, I get that it changes every time you open it. Just a weird observation.

I just use the play button on my (AVR) remote (not the select) to start the playlist without going into it.

@TeknoJunky Just wanted to say, the more I use these randomized playlists, the more I like them. Thanks for coming up with it. The additional variety it provides is really a good thing.
