I’ve noticed with MP4 files that audio & subtitle track title metadata isn’t indexed by Plex Media Server. This is already supported with MKV files.
This is problematic when you have multiple tracks of the same language, but need to differentiate between them; for example, Remix vs Theatrical.
Can Plex Media Server please add support for titles of audio & subtitle tracks in MP4 files to address this?
This is what I see for MKV files that I’d expect to see for MP4 files that have been labeled with title metadata for audio & subtitle tracks:
This is what I actually see for MP4 files with the title of the track missing:
Here’s the MediaInfo for the MP4 file above where you can see that the same audio & subtitle track title metadata exists:
Format : MPEG-4
Codec ID : isom (isom/iso2/mp41)
Video
ID : 1
Format : HEVC
Title : SDR10 from SDR8 (30th Anniversary Edition)
Language : English
Audio #1
ID : 2
Commercial name : HE-AAC
Title : Streamline Dub (HE-QAAC Dolby Surround)
Language : English
Default : Yes
Audio #2
ID : 3
Commercial name : HE-AAC
Title : Toho Original (HE-QAAC Dolby Surround)
Language : Japanese
Default : No
Text
ID : 4
Format : Timed Text
Muxing mode : sbtl
Codec ID : tx3g
Title : Subtitles
Language : English
Forced : No
I’m aware that I could just Remux these as MKV files, but then they wouldn’t Direct Play which means certain Plex clients would by default Transcode the video even though they already match the quality profile for Direct Stream.
