More Movies Than Folders

Server Version#: 4.49.2
Player Version#: Web

Hello, Can I get some assistance please?
I’m fairly new to the Plex server platform but I’m doign things as detailed and researching as much as possible.

My library has been clean up until 2 days ago.
My problem is that I show more movies in Plex than what I actually have.

I have my library set where movies, TV Shows, and other MISC media is set to it’s own directory.

Movies are then stored in their own folder.
ex: Folder: Child’s Play (1988)/ File: Child’s Play (1988) .mp4

In plex, here is what is listed as the numer of movies in my library:

When I switch to folders, this is what is shows

  • This is the correct number of folders and files on the server

    From Windows Explorer:

Things I’ve done in the past couple days:
Transfered more movie media files.
Actiaveted the Collections feature in Plex (it has created 12 collections from my last additions)

Things I’ve done to try to resolve:
Pulled away all the media files I added in the last 2 days then added again
Filtered library to look for duplicates (none)
Double checked the most recent adds for discrepency in name and year (all good)

I can’t seem to figure out why it’s mapping more movies that what’s listed.
Can you help please?

Thank you

What count is shown if you disable the displaying of collections for your library? Edit your library, select the advanced tab, and set Collections to Disabled (this setting should be toward the bottom). The default value of Show collections and their items will increase the count by the number of collections present; which, in your case, is conspicuously close to 3004.

Could also be you have multiple movies in some folders so these get counted as 1 folder but multiple movies.

Thank you for your responses, I figured it out.

It so happens that for every collection created, it was adding it to the main list of movies. I disabled the option to show the collections in the movie list and it now only shows collections in the collections tab.

I used this procedure to figure it out:

Collection Inline library display options

It’s possible to “collapse” collections for TV and movie (including “Other Videos”) libraries so that an entry for the collection appears inline with other items when browsing your library. This can be set or changed on the Advanced tab when creating or editing the corresponding library.

Setting options:

  • Disabled : Don’t display collections inline at all, show items. Regardless of individual collections settings, they will only be shown in the libraries collection tab.
  • Hide items which are in collections : If an item belongs to a collection, do not show the item in the main library when browsing. Entries for collections are shown inline.
  • Show collections and their items : Entries for collections are shown inline and items belonging to a collection also still appear in the main library when browsing.

When enabled, these “inline collections” will only appear when the library is sorted by Title/Name. For TV libraries, it applies only when viewing the library by shows (sorted by title) and not episodes or seasons.
