Missing series on Home Screen

Hello,

I have the problem that not all series are displayed on the home screen and under the Recommended tab. Of the 6 available series, 3 are now displayed.

Apparently this only affects regular users. All series are displayed for my admin user account.

I don’t understand it, everything worked once and suddenly the series are missing again. I’ve already restarted the Plex server several times and re-read the series library but nothing fixed it.

The Home screen is not supposed to show all items from your libraries.
It will change dynamically, depending on various things.
For instance, it will only show items:

  • to which the user has been granted access permission
  • which are in the bracket of the age ratings which may have been defined for the user
  • which are in a library that has been pinned to the left side bar
  • which fulfill certain filter conditions, like recently added, recently played other movies which may be related somehow etc. These filter conditions can vary from user to user, so the home screen will definitely look different, depending on the user’s past usage.

thanks for your reply. Nothing was changed for the user. All of a sudden some series are missing from his home screen. I just tested adding a new user. The new user is also able to see all series on his home screen.

The user with the missing series from his home screen has full permissions to view the series library. It’s also pinned to his side navigation.

On the server side the series library’s manage recommendations options are

Start Watching with “Library Recommended”, “Home”, “Friend’s Home” checkbox activated (all other deactivated).

What client are your users using? It’d help to understand what differences there are between user A (the one that cannot see all series) and user B (the new one that can see all series).

Also, where exactly on the home screen are you not seeing these series? Are you talking about in the “Home” menu on the left-hand side navigation? If here, are you talking about the “Continue Watching” section on the main right-side?

You mention the “Start Watching” pane is the only panel set to activated. This is a panel of random selections from your library. There is no guarantee that all your content will be presented here, and not in the same order as another user’s. In fact, I think that only items that have never been watching will show in this, so if User A has seen an episode of one of the shows, it won’t appear here any more.

I’ve tested it for both users myself on the same clients (web/tv as well as the Plex iOS app). The user with missing series on his home screen started watching these series. If content is shown there in a rather random fashion and/or viewed content is hidden by default, it might explain why it’s not there to one user while visible to the other.

However i noticed that for movies (even if watched by both users) they appear visible on the home screen across different users following the settings provided under the “manage recommendations” section. So that’s what i would also like to have for the series library.

The home screen is really horrible and not very flexible to customize. For example I can’t even disable the “recommendation” tab at all (because it’s not nedded by anyone). Also you can’t set a custom order for sorting the recently added content as like on the media library tab’s. It’s really annoying.

So i can only hide series from the home screen all together for my users. Only activating to show recently added series is a mess too because again you then can’t limit the amount of episodes or how they are sorted there.
