Missing specific seasons of TV series but present in database

Server Version#: 1.19.1.2645
Player Version#: n/a

I have 3 seasons of Death in Paradise (2011), 6,7 & 8. All are named exactly the same way with Sonarr:

{Series TitleYear} - S{season:00}E{episode:00} - {Episode CleanTitle} {[Quality Full]} {[MediaInfo VideoDynamicRange]} [{MediaInfo VideoBitDepth}bit] {[MediaInfo VideoCodec]} {[MediaInfo-AudioCodec}-{MediaInfo AudioChannels]}{[MediaInfo AudioLanguages]}{-Release Group}

However, Plex is only showing seasons 7 & 8, not season 6. When I run webtools, it says that season 6 is NOT missing from the database.

I’ve also tried the Plex Dance, with no luck…

Plex Media Server Logs_2020-04-25_22-32-57.zip (5.1 MB)

The entire zip file. Debug only. See Reporting Issues with Plex Media Server.

Please provide a directory listing showing how things are named and organzied.

Plex is very picky with TV shows names and organization. You must use a season folder (not clear from info provided). Also, try leaving out everything after the episode title.

Example:
/TV Shows/Death in Paradise/Season 01/Death In Paradise - s01e01 - Arriving in Paradise.ext

Naming and Organizing Media

TV Show Files (Naming and Organizing)

Logs attached in initial post.

Example filename with full path:

/data/media/tv/Death in Paradise (2011)/Season 6/Death in Paradise (2011) - S06E01 - Erupting in Murder [WEBDL-720p] [8bit] [h264] [AAC-2.0].mkv

TV Library only pointing to /tv

I tried that as well, in fact i tried no title too, just Death In Paradise (2011) - s06e01.mkv.

I’m stumped.

I added the show to my system using the file name you provided, and it matched right away, so no problem there.

I don’t claim to be an expert log file reader, but I can see your PMS scanning all the season folders. PMS sees the episodes for season 7 & 8, but not 6.

Maybe a file permissions issue?

Hopefully somebody else can weigh in on things.

check your permissions on those season folder/files, perhaps plex cannot access/read them.

/data/media/TV/Death in Paradise (2011)/Season 09/Death in Paradise (2011) - s09e01 - Episode 1 [h264 AAC 2.0].mkv

When all is tried… Do the Plex Dance just on Season 06.

I did try that.

Permission for all the files in the Season 6 folder, which is the same as season 7 and 8

All the season folders are:

It sees season 6, and for whatever reason, it passes over it.

Use ExportTools at level 4 (https://github.com/ukdtom/ExportTools.bundle/wiki/TV-Series-Export-Level#level-4), and then in the output file, sort the column named Part File Combined and locate your missing episode.

You can then see what it matched up as

What is Part File Combined actually telling me?

I noticed that particular field ends up containing a new line or CR in nearly every single episode line item.

Is there a character limit? I was trying out some different ideas, and when I changed the season folder from /Season 6/ to /S06/ and subsequently took everything out of each episode title to leave Death in Paradise (2011) - S06E01.mkv it was somehow able to pick it up

ExportTools is going to get me into more trouble, because now I can tell there are more episodes that aren’t getting episode name identified

Location in the filesystem

Settings, Wrap Lines

Don’t do that!
Naming guide says Season 06 so stick with that

Using default naming:

Death in Paradise (2011)/Season 06/Death in Paradise (2011) - S06E01 - Erupting in Murder [WEBDL-720p] [8bit] [h264] [AAC-2.0]-Scene.mkv

ExportTools doesn’t show that season at all. WebTools says that is NOT missing from the database though.

ExportTools reports what’s in the database only
WebTools also scans the file system, but when said, you have the filename containing: -Scene meaning it’s an extra

This is a Sonarr question now to make sure that if the Release Group is Scene, not to use -Scene, but something like [Scene] instead. Thanks for the help @dane22

One more thing to anyone else who find this.

This is a Sonarr Bug. Sonarr prefers folder release group over file release group. If you have multiple release groups, the folder name was likely -Scene, and then it renames all of the files with a -scene regardless of file release group. Sounds like they’re going to fix this
