Missing upgrade on libraries for TIDAL integration

Hello guys,

I’m running the latest

Server Version#: 1.18.4.2171

but somehow my libraries (Music and Films) got stuck with the “features” of an older version, somewhere before the TIDAL integration (“augmenting”).

So my TIDAL account is linked to my Plex account, the online media source in my account is enabled and TIDAL is browsable for example via the Plex Web App. Unfortunately I cannot add any Artist, Album, whatsoever to my own music library nor do I see any “augmented” features on an artist page.

As mentioned on this page https://support.plex.tv/articles/202934883-cinema-trailers-extras/ I also should have the option “Include related TIDAL content” but somehow this specific option is not available.

I double checked with a fresh server install on macOS (the TIDAL option for a newly created library is available) and reinstalled afterwards the server on my main linux system but there it remains missing.

I guess it’s somehow related to the libraries. I even checked the libraries (https://support.plex.tv/articles/201100678-repair-a-corrupt-database/) repaired it but nothing changed.

Any ideas for “how to fix this” are much appreciated!
I’d really like to see the advertised augmented TIDAL integration for movies, music etc on my very own Plex instance.

Thanks in advance,
Frank

are you using Plex Web or your server local ip address?

you can only add to my music, from tidal via the tidal ‘library’ or section, or anywhere that tidal extra content is displayed.

like this;

also, per your link above, you may want to double check the 2 settings (if they are already enabled, try disable, then enable).

Disable it for a Library

You can stop this related content from appearing for a particular library by:

  1. Edit the library
  2. Go to the Advanced tab
  3. Disable the Include related TIDAL content option and save the library

Disable Access to TIDAL in General

If you’re not interested in TIDAL at all, you can disable the provider altogether for your account as a whole. That can be done from your account’s Online Media Sources settings.

Hi,

actually, I tried both ways (local and web app) but none of them worked so far.

Library
As mentioned before I don’t have the option the disable “related TIDAL content” wether local nor in Plex Web.

But TIDAL as Online Media Source is enabled, the account is connected and the content is shown when selecting it (local or online).

what version of Plex Web ?

Version 4.18.1

settings > plex web > general

the only think I can think of, is that your installation of plex is wacked.

or that something on the back of plex has not got your tidal linked correctly.

you could try unlinking your tidal/plex account, then re-link it.

then restart server.

otherwise, sounds like needs a plex team member to take a look.

Hi,

it’s the same version. 4.18.1.
I just gave it another try… disabled, enabled, unlinked, linked again, including multiple restarts but nothing changed. The day before I even reinstalled the server.

Somehow the libraries won’t update, I guess.
Is there a command to force an upgrade or just simple to check libraries if they are on the current version?

unfortunately not that I am aware of.

I really doubt it is your library itself.

Plex will automatically update the database file on startup after an upgrade whenever needed.

its kind of a drastic measure, but you could find the plex pms app folder (not the data folder), rename it, then try reinstalling plex.

usually /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/

mv /usr/lib/plexmediaserver /usr/lib/pms.bak

then install the latest deb file

dpkg -i /path/to/pms.deb

that would clear out any old/cached files that may not be updating correctly.

Hi,

I just moved the old PMS as you described and (re)installed the latest deb-package (again)… got no luck. The libraries still don’t show the “TIDAL option” in the advanced section.

Maybe I have to delete some cache files in the data folder ($PLEX_HOME/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Cache or $PLEX_HOME/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Caches) for rebuilding?

weird, I suppose its possible, you could try renaming them like the other pms folder.

I guess a final step of troubleshooting would be to rename the database file and create a new single temp library to see if you can get it working.

if it works with a new database, then I suppose that narrows it down.

if it does not work with a new database, then there must be something going on in the back end that makes plex think you have tidal disabled.

Hi,

renaming the database file in $PLEX_HOME/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-in Support/Databases and creating a temporary one did not do the trick. Also the newly created database with one “Films” library did not show the “TIDAL option”.

Also cleaning up the several Caches-Folder did not help.
Anything to alter in the Preferences.xml maybe?

And… in Settings > Plug Ins I only got the iTunes Channel but ithe Photo and Aperture-Channels are missing… I guess it’s somehow related.

if there is a user setting that is stuck, renaming preferences.xml temporarily should clear it away.

you don’t want to lose it though, it contains the GUID for your server, and I would put it back after testing.

the preferences.xml and the library.db are the 2 most important files to keep backups, as everything else can be recreated/refreshed.

Hi,

renaming therefore resetting preferences.xml and starting with a fresh database I’ll get the “TIDAL option”… but putting it both files back, no surprise, the option is gone…

A diff of the newly preferences file with the old one, did not show up any big differences (except the ids) so there must be something wrong with the database… maybe something is missing?

Yeah wow that seems really strange.

Unfortunately at the beginning of the holiday is probably going to be difficult getting some insight or help that can perhaps identify or fix the issue.

The Tidal enhancements do run completely in the client. So I’d look towards the browser itself:

  • which browser is it?
  • which potentially interfering browser add-ins are active?
  • are there other filters active in your firewall, router or corporate internet gateway?

Hi,

I played a little bit with the Preferences.xml and a the database.
Backing up both files and creating for each a new one, suddenly I got the “TIDAL option”. So putting back the original database with my libraries the option remained… And now everything is spiced up with TIDAL content. Finally.

So at the end, it seems somehow the Preferences.xml was broken. Creating a new one did the trick, I guess.

Thanks @TeknoJunky for your guidance.
