Missing various episodes from program guide when they are new

I have seen this post, but not sure if it is the same issue or not. I am having an issue where there are new broadcasts OTA but the plex guide does not see the tv show at all (new or rerun). I will miss shows that are setup on my DVR to automatically record new as the program doesn’t see that there is a new show to record. It is very sporadic and I haven’t been able to pinpoint the issue. My most recent example of this was wanting to record Grey’s Anatomy last Thursday, but the Plex didn’t see that this was a new episode (it didn’t see it as a rerun either). My wife ended up watching it on live tv as she happened to be home and verified with me that it was a new episode.

I have rebuilt the DVR, rescanned, and refreshed the guide a few times but it did not resolve it. I can provide any logs as requested, just let me know whatever needs to be dumped here.

if you know there is a program that should be there now and that is not, then refresh the guide and get screenshots and zip of the logs and indication as to what is missing. A zip of a copy of the epg database may also be needed

suggest first ensuring debug logging is enabled
See https://support.plex.tv/articles/201643703-reporting-issues-with-plex-media-server/

restarting the server to get fresh logs

and then get the screenshots and zipped logs after refresh of the EPG and details of what is missing

The epg database files would be alongside the main database within the Plug-in Support\Databases directory and would have epg within the long name
eg tv.plex.providers.epg.onconnect.xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

That would enable one to start the investigation and see if there is a general EPG issue or just content issue

I would bet that the issue has to do with what Gracenote is sending and how PLEX is processing it. I wonder if this has anything to do with March Madness. I know that here in NC that College ball is big and that when our teams are playing at the end of the season (March Madness) network programming gets moved to other times so that people can see the games. I remember seeing while our teams were still in it, others complaining about losing shows that were on their schedules. In my area, many of these lost shows were not lost, but moved to other times. Now that we are also no longer in it, I am losing shows as well and it seems to always be around the time frame and channels that would be showing these games if we were still playing, between 7 and 8 PM on specific channels.

I would look into what Gracenote is sending and how your updating software is processing it. I would take a look at what data Gracenote is sending for limited area schedule changes due to these College games and if your updating routines are processing them correctly. Without seeing any code, it appears that the update program is seeing the change and removing the show being preempted from the EPG without checking to see if the change applies to that area but when it comes to adding the new show, it then determines that it does not apply to that area and doesn’t enter the new data, effectively making the existing show disappear from the EPG and recording schedule.

Hi and thanks for the replies @sa2000 and @tombonini

I was able to check the schedule for this week and it appears that all 95% of shows that have scheduled to record have finished as their season finale was last week. I can see the guide from last week where it shows that Grey’s didn’t record however.

That being said, I can still provide the logs and will do so sometime today.

Also sorry for the delay, the holiday set me back a few days for my email queue.

So @sa2000 its happening right now again with the same show - Greys Anatomy on ABC (local time 7pm). I have retrieved everything you need. Version 1.12.1.4885

Not sure if it may be related, but I changed my view in the web browser to program guide, then to watch now. It was stuck on ‘loading’ until after the Grey’s completed.

you are not alone. mine keeps dropping Greys off the schedule once the day that it is supposed to run comes. it has done this consistently for greys, The middle, big bang, Roseanne, and others. Yet many other programs still record. is seems to happen mostly at my 7pm hour(AustinCST). It is starting to get really old.

Having the same problem with Grey’s Anatomy and other shows. Show was listed for recording this morning, but was not this evening. It’s been happening for around a month I would say. Screen caps and logs and databases attached. 1.12.2.4929 on Centos 7

I am having this problem with some shows (big bang), it seems the EPG is refreshing more than once a day, and if it refreshes close to the show time, it drops the show.

@sa2000 So another day with Grey’s scheduled… It was on my DVR’s scheduled recording until around 1pm my time, then disappeared. A new episode is on tonight, yet my plex DVR does not see it airing at all tonight.

Any further insight? I am trying to refresh EPG right now to see if that helps and pushed 1.12.2.4929 today as well.

Should use the new beta 1.12.3.4947 as that has epg refresh improvements

With regards to lost recordings - a bug has just been found that arose after the DST change

I updated other forum threads - sorry I missed this.

A problem has just been found which results in lost airings which would lead to lost scheduled recordings

The issue arises when in Day Light Savings time

When doing an EPG Refresh, Airings at midnight GMT will disappear for the current day. Add/Subtract your offset from GMT and see if that fits with the times of the missing recordings - the recordings would be during 00:00 to 01:00 GMT

A fix will be released soon

The hot fix release for the bug giving rise to lost airings and recordings between 00:00 and 01:00 GMT on the day the EPG is refreshed is now available as beta release 1.12.3.4973-215c28d86
