This has become a regular issue for me – I can fix it by manually refreshing the program guide, but I never know when it’s going to drop shows and need to be refreshed manually. Result is that I miss shows in the morning that showed as scheduled to record the night before.
Another issue is that “Refresh Program Guide” doesn’t seem to be what actually happens. If you “refresh”, it seems to completely delete the current one and you have nothing until it’s 100% done “refreshing”.
Is there a bug repository somewhere that I can check to see if this has been logged? It happens at least every 48 hours (lately it’s been every day). I’ve trimmed down the number of channels to 70 (from ~400) which helps the “refresh” speed, but it hasn’t had any effect on the shows disappearing.
I noticed that if I set it to repeat and new shows then it shows up. But I’m pretty sure the upcoming episodes are not repeats. So not sure why just new episodes isn’t working.
I have similar behavior. I know there is an episode to record, but Plex doesn’t recognize that fact.
I’ve tried the new and repeat method too, and sometimes it will cause episodes to appear without refreshing the guide, sometimes not. I’ve found that when it does, it doesn’t label the episode correctly – it labels it the day it was recorded. So if the original was set to air on 6/8, but the repeat is on at 1AM on 6/9 and it records it, that episode will get overwritten when (after a guide refresh) the first-run 6/9 episode is recorded. Not a workable solution for me.
It would also be nice if you could say “keep only the last x episodes”
I’ve come across this issue as well.
The last time this occurred for me was on 06-09-2017 with a series recording of “Wynonna Earp” on the SyFy. The 06-09-2017 10-11:00 pm airing was in the recording schedule when it was setup but diapered shortly thereafter. However, the following weeks 06-16-2017 recording was still on the schedule.
Upon further inspection, it seems that the issue with the 06-09-2017 airing was that the guide wouldn’t or couldn’t see guide data for the given channel at that time. That is to say that the missing scheduled recording was being forced to (failing over to) SD channel 113 SyFy because it had no data for HD channel 633 SyFy on 06-16-2017.
If preferences are setup for HD only recording or the channel is forced to the HD channel in this case 633 then the recording is dropped.
All I had to do to have the show reappear in the recording schedule was to accept the SD recording. The guide was up to date at the time. Initiating a manual update for the guide did nothing to address the issue.
That makes sense, Octavean, but it’s not the issue in my case. I’ve removed all of the SD channels (Comcast splits them to different channel ranges and the rest are OTA) so there should only be HD airings in my guide. FWIW, it just happened again this morning, missing all of the Sunday news shows. I just manually refreshed last night shortly before midnight. I am (andI believe the OP is) talking about programs that appear in both the guide and the recording schedule, then simply disappear at some point.
Is there a bug database I can check to add this if it’s not there? It’s a deal breaker in my household. If I could get this issue fixed along with a workable/usable Program Guide (i.e., a grid), Live TV with timeshifting and click to record, and the ability to record by arbitrary channel and time, I’d recommend this wholeheartedly to everyone I come across. As it is, though, I have to tell them it might be cool in the future but don’t do it.
Had the same issue with movies that I wanted to re-record off of the TV - usually due to a bad first recording. The Guide would show an upcoming episode and allow me to select it for recording, but when viewing the Recording Schedule > Recording Priority, the text “No upcoming airings” would be displayed instead of the date and time of the recording.
What I found is that this will happen if you already have the show recorded. Plex apparently won’t make a duplicate - and it is pretty good about searching through your library to find out if you already have a copy.
My Plex setup records the movies to the “TV Shows” library. To fix the problem, I removed the previous recording from the directory by using the filesystem to copy the recorded MPEG file outside of the Plex library directory. Then did a “Scan Library Files” on the TV Shows library. Voila! The Recording schedule immediately shows a date and time for the upcoming recording.
Hope this helps.
