MKV subs showing in top of screen while subs are turned off

I recently starting having this problem. When playing mkv files that have subtitles in them, plex client shows the subs in top fo the screen. But when I go to subtitles it shows as subtitles off. The only way to get rid of the subs in top of the screen is to remove the subs from the files itself. (subs are not hardcoded into the image)
Never had this issue before. does anyone have a solution for this?

anybody? this is really annoying and i cant find a fix.
