Via my android mobile, I can browse using chrome to my plex server and it works (using ip & port). But if I use the plex mobile app, by adding the ip address and port in Advanced Settings, my server doesn’t show up.
I connect my mobile to my home network via a VPN.
The connection is there and works so I can only imagine the mobile app is performing some additional checks to ensure the server is working? What are the additional checks so I can get the mobile app working?
Here’s the theory, perhaps the mobile app uses the device as registered / associated with the account logged in. (rather than just the ip as specified in advanced settings)
I had specified a ‘Custom server access URLs’ at one point using an FQDN which resolves on my network, but just as a test decided to modify that with an ip address instead. This resulted in a working installation. So the mobile app isn’t relying solely on the address specified in advanced settings.
Summary: Try specifying your plex server ip in the Custom Server access URLs section under the SETTINGS → Network menu.
