Plex Movies number total does not match total of movies in folder

I am running into an issue where Plex shows that I only have a total of 854 movies however if I go to my movies folder on my external drive (Movie Library) it shows that I have a total of 870 movies which is a huge difference. I have already tried deleting the movies library and re-adding it but still having the same issue. I do not have my movies in separate folders I have them all in one folder for example: /Movies/Batman Forever.mp4 so I’m not sure what the problem is I don’t recall ever having this issue before.

Plex counts Items. A Collection is an item and it may have a few movies in it. You may have a mismatched duplicate (Filter for Duplicates).

If each movie is in a folder and you have one library - View by Folders and that number will be pretty close. That’s what I do.

For instance:

On my Movie Page I have 162 Collections - and that’s what Plex shows me:

With each movie in a folder… I’ll get a pretty accurate count of those:

To be clear:
It’s a work-around. Plex should be able to tell you how many movies you have. At least every USER on the planet thinks so, but for now, we count folders.

Just temporarily pick a different sorting order than “Titles”, and Plex won’t show (and count) the collections inline.
