For one of our project I am utesting new updated verion of Plex for testing server and client .
The client come up with the requirement of many Input media devices to the Server , like Satellite TV channels, Personalized media contant from a dedicated media server, CCTV live stream etc… i calculate and find that it is more then 3 IP address which will provide video multicasting streams.
So, i want to know how can we assign more then IP addresses to Plex for streaming input.??? i have checked that Plex only support two IP addresses from different servers one as Main server and other as a Backup Server.
Would you mind elaborating what you’re trying to achieve?
I’m not even aware of Plex directly linking IP addresses (let alone 2 or 3) as streaming sources?!
Not sure how that part of your question goes along the main/backup server part?!
My guess at deciphering this salad of words:
He’s unfamiliar with Plex, both its capabilities and implementation.
He’s doing an A/V install for a fancy house.
The client wants a movie library.
And security cam feeds.
And live/time-shifted satellite TV.
Some of the client apps allow a manual primary/backup server IP address configuration, but there are only two fields available. That seems to imply that only two video sources can be configured.
@jaw2, Plex is a great media library. It’s suitable for stored media ripped from discs. It’s good with some types of live OTA and Cable TV, using supported adapters - but not Satellite. There are free and ad-supported streaming channels available.
Plex doesn’t use multicast for anything. It’s not suitable for security systems. It doesn’t support satellite TV. IP and IPTV streams are not supported in Plex except with third-party fake-TV hacks. It isn’t the “center” of a whole-house A/V management system.
The IP address settings in clients are not necessary for clients to find servers, and are only used in specific scenarios.
Plex clients find Plex media library servers through a directory service. Each Plex server is registered with the Plex cloud, and client users are granted permission to access that server. When a user authenticates through a Plex Client, they have access to all Plex servers that are sharing with them.
Thank you for your suggestion and explanation, i am new to Plex, i haven’t use it before that why i was looking for some suggestions.
here again i will my issue and what i want to Achieve.
We want to use plex server on our network in a remote area there is no internet connectivity So, we want to use Video library, Live TV from satellite and CCTV Feed.
There is issue for Video Library , but the Satellite TV where i am confused.
In satellite tv some FTA and Paid (Encrypted channels) will be used, For FTA satellite channels we can use VBox VLX-4134 Tuner which will convert QAM to IP stream for Plex.
Now the main issue is Encrypted (Paid) channels so, i want to know which Tuner/Decoder can work for it and how will use it.??
I knew about the VBox terrestrial receivers, but I wasn’t aware of that device. Neat! Thanks.
If the remote location truly has no Internet connectivity that’s another reason Plex may not be a good choice. The program guide for any available channels would need to be downloaded over the Internet.
And I’m still not aware of any satellite solution for encrypted/premium channels.
For security cams, Plex doesn’t directly support any IP/RTP stream sources. People hack this together with PseudoTV/XTeve or similar software so it appears like a TV channel.
Plex is a great choice for a personal media library. I think you might be happier with other products for satellite TV and security cams.
Before posting here i Installed a Plex server and run it for a week, initially it need internet to establish a connection between Server and User/TV so we will use Sim WiFi dongle and once the connection is established then we can go offline on the Same network without any issue. i have tested different Libraries on a offline network and it works fine.
can you suggest any other solution for that.?
