I’ve recently been trying to setup PlexMS as a music server, mainly due to the fact that you guys got it working on a Raspberry Pi 2 and the fact that the client is really nice on my Samsung TV and my son’s PS4
I have a reasonably large music library of 70,000 tracks (9,000 albums and 2,000 artists) and my first attempt at setting up the library was aborted after 5 days and the scan still seemed to be chugging happily on with no sign of completing. Is that normal?
I have to admit I hadn’t done much reading on the way Plex libraries work, so having read through
https://support.plex.tv/hc/en-us/sections/200058637-Naming-and-Organizing-Music-media
I now have a better understanding of what it’s doing, but I have zero interest in downloading tons of metadata from the internet.
My current folder set up is
/Media/Music/Artist/Year Album/Track – Title.mp3
This seems to be at odds with the recommendation in the link
Media/Music/Artist - Album/Track – Title.mp3
Which would be an unwieldy way to organise my folders given the size of my library – does it matter if I don’t strictly follow that set up?
My library is fully and consistently tagged ID3v2.3 mp3s with cover art jpgs in each album folder.
All I really want to do is have those tags read and that cover art loaded. Nothing more, nothing less.
What is the most basic recommended way of setting up the scanner to do this?
