Move storage location make server going down

Hi,
I had retry and I have the same bug.

What I did:

  1. Remove Server in authorized device (in the Plex Account at https://www.plex.tv/).
  2. Uninstall Plex and Plex Media Server (yes, they are already install when you factory reset the nvidia shield).
  3. Plug the usb stick in the nvidia shield.
  4. Format the usb key to become an internal storage (do not move the data to complete the setup)
  5. Reformat it to become an removable storage (I try that because you told me it could be the issues)
  6. Install Plex and Plex Media Server
  7. Start Plex and create the server (I did not create the “default plex library”).
  8. Go on the PC to do the setting (I did not change anything).
  9. In Plex Web, I create all my librairies.
  10. After they were created and all the metadata were downloaded, I move the storage location.

The server goes down in less than 24 hours. I think it only happen if I use the Plex Media Player of the Shield.

Server Version#: 1.23.1.4602
Player Version#: 8.17.1.25326
Shield Version#: 8.2.3(32.6.518.0)

Hi @anon18523487,
Is there any news?
The last time you replied was 24 days ago.

Like, is this is a bug or I am doing something wrong?
Thank you

Sorry. I was able to get into a similar situation where I had a corrupt database after starting PMS over from scratch. For me, it turned out to be a bad usb drive. I got a new usb drive and I do not see a corrupted database anymore. I was able to move my data folder over to the usb drive. Yes, I did have to format it twice like you said. I don’t know when that changed. I remember there use to be an option to just format it as external. I’ve had my PMS on the Shield running for over a week without issues, even after letting the device sleep for a few days. I’ve also uninstalled and reinstalled PMS successfully.

I would first suggest maybe trying another usb drive if you have access to one.

Hi,
I finally manage to make the server working fine.

I ask a lot of people and I concluded that the nvidia shield does not handle usb sticks well.

So, I bought and ssd + an enclosure and I had format it in exFat.

Now, it work without any problem.

I don’t know if you can do it, but it would be great to write here that the people should not use a usb key. They should use a ssd+enclosure/external hard drive.

Thank you for your help @anon18523487

Using a usb stick can be fine, but some of these do have issues.
